A batch or continuous process for preparing silylated polymers having low color and color stability comprising silylating a prepolymer having reactive functional groups with a silylating agent and optionally quenching the silylated polymer, where a stabilizer package containing at least one phosphite stabilizing agent is used.

Process for the preparation of silylated polymers having low color and color stability

A continuous process for preparing a silylated polymer comprising a silylation step where a prepolymer having reactive functional groups, a first intermediate product, is reacted continuously with a silylating agent in an endcapping tubular reaction unit to form a second intermediate product, and where at least a portion of the second intermediate product is backmixed continuously with the first intermediate product to form the silylated polymer. The continuous process may further comprise a stabilization step, a quenching step or both a stabilization step and a quenching step.

Process for the preparation of silylated polymers employing a backmixing step

The invention relates to branched polysiloxane compositions resulting from copolymerizing under hydrosilylation conditions a component mixture comprising (a) one or more organosilicon compounds containing at least two unsaturated hydrocarbon functional groups per molecule, and (b) one or more silylhydride-containing compounds containing at least two silylhydride functional groups per molecule, with the provision that (i) at least one component (a) or (b) contains at least three functional groups per molecule; (ii) a component (a) or (b) having a higher number of functional groups per molecule is present in a molar amount equal to or lower than a molar amount of the other component (a) or (b) having a lower number of functional groups per molecule; and (iii) unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds are excluded from the component mixture.

Branched polysiloxane composition

The invention relates to coating formulations comprising (i) a silicone-based coating component susceptible to misting under mist-producing conditions; and (ii) an anti-misting amount of a branched polysiloxane component resulting from copolymerizing under hydrosilylation conditions a component mixture comprising (a) one or more organosilicon compounds containing at least two unsaturated hydrocarbon functional groups per molecule, and (b) one or more silylhydride-containing compounds containing at least two silylhydride functional groups per molecule, with the provision that (i) at least one component (a) or (b) contains at least three functional groups per molecule; (ii) a component (a) or (b) having a higher number of functional groups per molecule is present in a molar amount equal to or lower than a molar amount of the other component (a) or (b) having a lower number of functional groups per molecule; and (iii) unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds are excluded from the component mixture. The invention also relates to a process for coating a substrate with the above coating formulation, as well as hardened silicone-based coatings or films obtained by subjecting the coated substrate to one or more curing steps.

A process for the continuous production of silylated prepolymer includes continuously introducing a predetermined quantity of a polyol into at least one reaction zone; continuously introducing a silylating agent into the at least one reaction zone; continuously reacting the polyol under reaction conditions of temperature and time sufficient to produce a silylated prepolymer resin; and, continuously removing the silylated prepolymer resin from the at least one reaction zone.

High levels of inorganic filler, processing fluid and silicone polymer are compounded and devolatilized into homogeneous filled compositions with requisite reinforcing properties and levels of volatiles. In the method, a filler, processing fluid and silicone polymer are mixed in a first compounding apparatus to produce a dispersed composition containing volatiles. The dispersed composition is then compounded in a long extruder having an L/D ratio of greater than 50 to devolatilize the dispersed composition.
