The invention includes a medical hydrogel made from polymerized polysaccharide macromers. The macromers are preferably polysaccharides decorated with polymerizable groups, for example, methacrylates. The macromers may also be made into polymers of at least two macromers polymerized together. These polymers are preferably multi-armed or high-molecular weight and used for medical uses, for example, making coatings on medical devices. Macromers of N-vinylpyrrolidone are also disclosed herein.

The present invention provides, in a first aspect a bifurcated stent for use in juxtaposition with an angelogical bifurcation. The bifurcated stent comprises a proximal portion adapted to be disposed within a blood vessel in juxtaposition with a bifurcation, a first distal stent portion adapted to extend across the bifurcation into one of the branched blood vessels, and a second distal stent portion adapted to allow blood to flow from the proximal portion into the other branch blood vessel. The invention also embraces a bifurcated prosthesis including such a bifurcated stent and a tubular graft layer formed from a biocompatible fabric in juxtaposition with the stent. In a second aspect of the invention there is provided a stent connection for joining two stents one to the other to define a continuous lumen through the two stents. Said stent connection comprises a first stent including a male engaging portion which can be compressed radially inwardly and a second stent including a female cooperating portion. Said male engaging portion can be entered into the female cooperating portion in a radially compressed state and thereafter caused or allowed to expand in the female cooperating portion to join the two stents together.

Bifurcated endoluminal prosthesis

A stent is provided comprising a plurality of hoops aligned along a common axis, wherein each of the hoops is oriented in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the stent. Each of the hoops includes a plurality of elongate elements joined to one another and forming apices that point in a direction along the axis of the stent. The stent also comprises means for securing an apex of one hoop to a juxtaposed apex of a neighboring hoop.

Bleeding is controlled on an inner surface of a body cavity by inserting into the cavity an expandable balloon which is covered by a hemostatic shroud, expanding the balloon, and compressing the shroud against the site of bleeding. The balloon may be disposed around a central tube to supply inflation medium. The tip of the device is soft to aid with insertion. The invention includes the corresponding devices and systems for such control of bleeding within a body cavity or passageway, as well as a method of making the devices.

Hemostatic system for body cavities

Bleeding is controlled on an inner surface of a body cavity, including a non-vascular body passageway, by inserting into the cavity an expandable balloon which is covered by a hemostatic shroud, expanding the balloon, and compressing the shroud against the site of bleeding. The shroud may be released from the balloon. Subsequently, the balloon may be withdrawn from the body cavity, leaving the shroud in vivo to perform its hemostatic function. Optionally, the shroud can be withdrawn at some later point by the use of an extension &ldquo;tail&rdquo; which is included on the shroud. An alternative method of this invention for controlling or preventing a bleeding situation within a pathological cavity is the use of filling material to plug the cavity. The invention also includes the corresponding devices and systems for such control of bleeding within a body cavity or passageway.

System for delivering a prosthesis

A system is provided for assembling an endoluminal prosthesis within a body lumen and for indicating the rotational orientation of a segment of the endoluminal prosthesis during insertion thereof into the body lumen. The system includes prosthesis segments configured for engagement to one another to form the endoluminal prosthesis in the body lumen. The system also includes radiographic indicia defined on at least one of the prosthesis segments and having different radiopacity from the prosthesis segment, wherein the composite radiographic image of the radiographic indicia varies with the rotational orientation of the prosthesis segment in the body lumen. The rotational orientation of the prosthesis segment in the body lumen is indicated by the radiographic image for optional adjustment of the rotational orientation.
