A stent comprises at least one stent member woven to form a substantially tubular body that defines a flow path. The tubular body comprises a first region and a second region. In the first region the at least one stent member defines a plurality of first region openings and in the second region at least one first portion of the at least one member and at least one second portion of the at least one member are engaged together to form at least one primary strand. The at least one primary strand defines a plurality of second region openings. The at least one of the plurality of second region openings is in fluid communication with the flow path. The plurality of second region openings provide the second region with a greater porosity than the first region.

A method of measuring blood pressure and velocity proximally and distally of a stenosis in a vessel carrying blood includes the steps of providing a guide wire having both a pressure sensor and a velocity sensor disposed on a distal region of the guide wire, introducing the guide wire into the vessel, advancing the guide wire to position the pressure sensor and the velocity sensor proximally and distally of the stenosis, and measuring the blood pressure and velocity proximally and distally of the stenosis with the pressure sensor and the velocity sensor.

Hypotubes such as micromachined hypotubes can include one or more tie layers appropriate for subsequent application of a hydrophilic coating. In particular, a medical device may include a micromachined hypotube having a level of flexibility and a tie layer disposed over the hypotube such that the medical device has a level of flexibility at least substantially equivalent to the level of flexibility of the hypotube.

A self-expanding stent delivery assembly includes a shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, a distal region, a lumen, and a longitudinal axis. A retractable sheath having an outer surface, a proximal end and a distal end is co-axially disposed around the shaft distal region. A stent is disposed co-axially between the shaft and the retractable sheath. A tubular tapered tip is affixed to the retractable sheath distal end. The tubular tapered tip has an elongate region predisposed to fracturing. Methods of delivering a self-expanding stent are also described.

A guide wire having pressure sensing capabilities for measuring the pressure of liquid in a vessel comprising a flexible elongate member and having proximal and distal extremities and having an outside diameter of 0.018&#x2033; or less. The distal extremity of said flexible elongate member is adapted to be disposed in the liquid in said vessel. A housing is carried by the flexible elongate member and has a diameter substantially the same as the diameter of the flexible elongate member. The housing has a space therein with a pressure sensor mounted in the space in the housing. The pressure sensor has a diaphragm that is sensitive to changes of pressure in the liquid in the vessel. The diaphragm is rectangular in shape and is bordered by a rim surrounding the well. A backing plate is formed of an insulating material bonded to the crystal and serves to reinforce the rim of the crystal of semiconductor material. The backing plate has a cavity therein underlying the diaphragm and is in substantial registration with the diaphragm. The cavity serves to provide a pressure reference.

Guidewire with pressure and temperature sensing capabilities

Stent and stent delivery system suited for the noninvasive treatment of aneurysms, diseased blood vessels, and other bodily lumen are described. Detachable proximal and/or distal wires connected to the proximal and distal ends, respectively, of the stent allow the operator to manipulate the position and final configuration of the stent upon deployment.

Ultra miniature pressure sensor and guide wire using the same and method

A guide wire assembly comprises a tubular body having a distal end and an proximal end. At least a portion of the body comprises a single continuous helical spring to which one or more tubular electrodes are secured. The electrodes are insulated from the spring by means of an insulator. The electrodes can take a variety of forms, including conductive ribbons, longitudinally split conductive tubes, tubular sections, etc. The guide wire assembly may further include a variety of sensors, such as velocity sensors or temperature sensors. In order to allow flowable material to be passed to the distal end of the guide wire, the guide wire can include a catheter tube passable over the tubular body of the guide wire.
