A transmissometer and method for determining a transmissivity of an atmosphere within a chamber. A chamber contains the atmosphere. A light source generates a test beam and a light detector detects the test beam. A periscope is movable between a first position which allows the test beam to pass through the atmosphere in the chamber and into the light detector and a second position in which the test beam is deflected to pass into the light detector without passing through the atmosphere in the chamber. A processor determines the transmissivity of the atmosphere from a transmissivity measurement for the test beam obtained by the light detector when the periscope is in the first position and a transfer standard obtained at the light detector when the periscope is in the second position.

Provided is a detection system that utilizes high dynamic range, monolithically arranged, digital pixel sensors for situational awareness, targeting, tracking or locating. The detection system transmits a radially outwardly directed set of laser pulses into an environment, aspects of the pulses being reflected back by environmental elements to a single pixel array. The single pixel array scans volumetric space proximate the environment for profile characterization of the reflected aspects by the detection system in terms of intensity and multiplicity. The detection system is configured to compare this profile against a library of profiles of known environmental elements to distinguish between the environmental elements and a target. The detection system may be disposed about an outer periphery of a projectile for use in determining when the projectile is proximate the target for triggering an actionable element of the projectile, such as an initiator fuze for an explosive system.

For test/calibration of an electro-optic range-finding device, one or more fiber bundles each are selected to have a length corresponding to predetermined time-of-flight for light pulses. An input end is positioned proximate to the laser aperture of the range-finding device to receive a portion of light emitted through the laser aperture, and the output end is positioned to emit light from the respective fiber bundle through the detector aperture of the range-finding device. A fiber attenuator is connected along each fiber of the one or more fiber bundles to attenuate an amplitude of light propagating through the respective fiber by an amount corresponding to a target of known reflectance and distance. The one or more fiber bundles are each coiled to reduce a linear distance over which the one or more fiber bundles extend. The one or more fiber bundles may each comprise a plurality of fibers.

Compact test range for active optical target detectors

An apparatus for displaying a scene with blackbody light includes a sheet of nano-structures having a first side and a second side opposing the first side. The first side and the second side are configured to receive light from an environment facing both sides and emit light to the environment facing both sides. Each nano-structure is configured to receive light in a first range of wavelengths resulting in heating the nano-structure and to emit blackbody light due to the heating to display the scene with blackbody light. The apparatus also includes a projector configured to irradiate the nano-structures on one of the sides of the sheet with light in the first range of wavelengths that form the scene to be displayed with the blackbody light emitted from the sheet of nano-structures.

A dual-mode optical and RF reflector, and test system using the same. In one example the reflector is a mirror having a reflective surface including a first zone having a first surface precision, wherein a remainder of the reflective surface outside of the first zone has a second surface precision that is substantially lower than the first surface precision, the mirror being configured to collimate and reflect an RF signal from the reflective surface, and to collimate and reflect an optical signal from the first zone.

A method includes selecting one or more analysis algorithms to be used to verify an authenticity of an electronic component. Each analysis algorithm identifies a type of data to be analyzed and/or a manner in which the data is to be collected. Each analysis algorithm also defines how the data is to be analyzed to verify the authenticity of the electronic component. The method also includes obtaining data associated with the electronic component. The method further includes analyzing the data associated with the electronic component using the one or more selected analysis algorithms to determine whether the electronic component is authentic. In addition, the method includes generating an output based on the analysis. One or more characteristics of the electronic component could be compared against one or more characteristics of at least one reference component, or variations in one or more characteristics of multiple electronic components could be identified.

Screening of electronic components for detection of counterfeit articles using automated inspection system

A multimode radiation source is disclosed. One embodiment includes a waveguide radiator and an orthomode transducer coupled to the waveguide radiator to provide a first signal to the waveguide radiator. The waveguide radiator is configured to receive the first signal and to radiate the first signal at a first location as a first spherical wave signal with a first phase center. The multimode source also includes transmission medium coupled to the waveguide radiator and configured to radiate a second signal and a third signal from the first location as a second spherical wave and a third spherical wave with substantially the first phase center.
