A method and network device to process network data is described. The method may comprise, when the network device is unable to process the network data, communicating a translation request including data for translation to a remote translator. The translation request may identify a format into which the network data is to be translated. Thereafter, the method comprises receiving translated data from the translator and processing the translated data. Further, a method and translation device to provide translated data to a network device is described. The method may comprise receiving at a translator a translation request from at least one network device wherein the translation request includes data to be translated. Thereafter, the method may identify a data schema associated with the received data and translate the received data into translated data corresponding to the identified data schema. The translated data is then communicated to the network device.

Method and device to process network data

A method of controlling access to a computer network, the method comprising the steps of receiving a request for network access from an end station device; receiving a unique identifier of the end station device; determining that the unique identifier is not within a set of authorized identifiers; assigning a short-term, non-routable network address to the end station device; receiving an authorization code from the end station device, wherein the authorization code has been previously issued in response to a purchase of goods or services from a merchant associated with the computer network; attempting to validate the authorization code; if the authorization code is validated, then assigning a longer-term, routable network address to the end station device.

Method of controlling network access that induces consumption of merchant goods or services

A method is disclosed for automatically provisioning network devices for use with virtual circuit networks, such as frame relay and ATM networks. The device receives a list of identifiers corresponding to virtual circuits from a configuration interface for the virtual circuit network. The device iteratively applies each identifier from the list to individual instances of interface configuration commands and attempts to provide connectivity with a remote device. Once a configuration command is applied, the device will obtain an IP address for a device terminating the virtual circuit corresponding to the identifier selected from the list; and determines an IP address for itself. The device tests the virtual circuit for connectivity with the remote device. If the device is able to determine that the virtual circuit corresponding to the selected identifier provides connectivity to the remote device, then that virtual circuit is used to connect to the remote device.

Method and apparatus for providing automatic frame relay and ATM provisioning of network devices

A method is disclosed for reverting to a recovery configuration in response to device faults. A change to the configuration is received. The change may be in the form of configuration instructions that comprise input from a user identifying changes to be made to the configuration information reflecting the configuration of cards or interface devices in the device. A user, an IT administrator or the like can provide configuration instructions. The device may change its current configuration to a new configuration based upon the configuration instructions. If a loss of connectivity resulting from the configuration change is detected, the device will recover from the loss of connectivity by reverting to a recovery configuration.
