A network system, switch controller for multicast packet distribution by controlling a network switch having at least one ingress interface and at least one egress interface. The controller generates a control command using an application programming interface for the network switch, the control command having a replicate command to replicate the incoming signal packets by distributing the incoming signal packets based on a number of the plurality of destination addresses to a corresponding number of egress interfaces of the at least one egress interface of the network switch, each of the number of egress interfaces having a loopback connection to an ingress interface of the at least one ingress interface of the network switch, the control command having a header translation command to control the network switch to translate header address information of each of the replicated signal packets to a destination address of the plurality of destination addresses, the destination address for transmission of the translated replicated signal packets to a destination device listening to the destination address. The controller sends the control command to the network switch to trigger the distribution of the incoming signal packets to the plurality of destination addresses.

Device, system and method for network-based address translation for multiple recipients

The present invention provides systems and methods for providing on-demand datacasting. A system according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention comprises a rate generator for controlling the rate at which data signals are combined with audio/video signals. The system may also include a system controller for controlling the rate of the rate generator. The system controller may also monitor the complexity of the audio/video signals, calculate an average complexity of the audio/video signals, calculate an average complexity of the audio/video signals and determine whether the average complexity is greater than the typical complexity of audio/video signals. The system controller may adjust the rate of the rate generator based on the determination of whether the average complexity of the audio/video signals is greater than the typical complexity of audio/video signals.

Systems and methods for providing on-demand datacasting

A temporally-pipelined predictive encoder/decoder circuit for encoding or decoding an input signal containing a sequence of data frames received at a particular frame rate and frame data rate into an output signal having an equal frame rate employs a plurality of N predictive encoders/decoders. An input buffer may be used to extract the information for each data frame in the input signal and supply such information to a corresponding one of the encoders/decoders at rate of 1/N of the particular frame data rate. Each encoder/decoder generates corresponding encoded/decoded information as it is received as well as provides digitized frame information to the encoder/decoder processing the next received image frame. The encoded/decoded information is provided to corresponding frame buffers which temporarily store such information. Each one of the frame buffers is connected to respective inputs of a multiplexer, wherein the encoded/decoded information is provided to a multiplexer output to form the encoded/decoded output signal. When information for the entire frame has been stored by a frame buffer, the stored data information is provided to the multiplexer output to provide the portion of the output signal corresponding to that frame.

Temporally-pipelined predictive encoder/decoder circuit and method

Apparatus for eliminating the truncation errors associated with a multiplicative leak factor employed in a predictive coding arrangement adds a temporally varying control signal that affects the leak factor multiplication output. Specifically, in one embodiment the leak factor multiplication output is modified by arbitrarily changing, or dithering, the level of the mean signal. In another embodiment, the leak factor multiplication output is modified by effectively dithering the leak factor itself. The latter is accomplished by adding the varying control signal prior to the truncated division which occurs in the leak factor multiplication process.

Encoded blocks of video information are selected for transmission at a plurality of channel rates based on the corresponding location of the portions of the video image represented by the encoded blocks. Each encoded block is designated an image type which determines its transmitted channel rate. The image types are associated with spatial positions of a video image such that encoded blocks within a first area of the video image are designated a first image type and encoded blocks within a second area of the image are designated a second image type. In general, data blocks representing the central portion of the video image are transmitted at a channel rate having less susceptibility to noise or other degradation, thereby ensuring that such portion can be received in fringe areas.

A vector codebook with an ordered set of vector entries that satisfy a prearranged continuity requirement is used to encode signals. The continuity requirement specifies that consecutively considered vectors may not differ from each other by more than k elements, where k is less than the number of elements in the vectors. In one embodiment, two memories are maintained. One for determining the best codebook vector selection, and one for quantizing the input signal in accordance with the selected vector. Recognizing the possibility that the best ordering possible for a given set of codebook vectors can not satisfy the continuity requirement, the vector codebook arrangement of this invention is enlarged in such a case to include additional vectors that are interposed in the sequence of vectors and arranged to maintain the continuity requirement.
