In described examples, a method includes receiving, by a power delivery (PD) controller, a first sensed voltage, while the PD controller is producing a first control signal and in response to determining that the first sensed voltage passes a threshold voltage, starting, by the PD controller, a timer, where the threshold voltage is a first threshold, a second threshold, or a third threshold. The method also includes during a time period of the timer, producing, by the PD controller, the first control signal and during the time period of the timer, receiving, by the PD controller, a second sensed voltage. Additionally, the method includes after expiration of the timer, producing, by the PD controller, a second control signal based on the second sensed voltage.

USB power delivery management

A multi-port charging system includes a controller having a power input terminal coupled to a DC power output of a converter, multiple power output terminals coupled to the power input terminal, and a communications input terminal. The system includes multiple charger ports, the respective charger ports having a charging power line coupled to a respective one of the power output terminals, and a communications line coupled to the communications input terminal. The controller is configured to control the state of the control output terminal to set a voltage of the DC power output according to a selected highest common compatible voltage of one or more sink devices coupled to one or more respective ones of the charger ports.

Multiple output charging system and controller

In a described example, a circuit includes a synchronization control circuit having a sync input and a sync control output, in which the sync input is coupled to a sync terminal configured to receive an external clock signal. An internal clock generator circuit has a control input and an output. The control input is coupled to the sync control output. An output circuit has first and second signal inputs, a mode control input and a clock output. The first signal input is coupled to the sync input, and the second signal input of the output circuit is coupled to the output of the internal clock generator circuit. The mode control input is coupled to the sync control output, and the clock output adapted to be coupled to a controller.

Clock sync input dropout protection

In described examples, a source circuit can have an input and an output. The input can be adapted to be coupled to an input voltage source configured to provide an input voltage. The source circuit can be configured to output power at an output based on a power delivery mode. The source circuit can include a timer and power delivery (PD) controller. The PD controller can be configured to control the power delivery mode responsive to the input voltage and the timer. The PD controller can be further configured to set a respective power delivery mode and initiate the timer for a timer duration based on the input voltage relative to an input voltage threshold. The PD controller can be further configured to continue operating in the respective power delivery mode for the timer duration.

Conventionally, current detection in load switches is implemented by monitoring the voltage across a small value sense resistor in series with the load switch, where the differential voltage across is applied to a comparator to generate a control signal corresponding to a light load condition, a normal load condition, or an over-load condition. Detecting the light load condition, however, can be difficult to determine using this arrangement due to the low differential voltage. Here, however, a integrated circuit (IC) is provided that employs an internal voltage supply and comparators to examine the load current to determine whether a light load condition is present, which does not suffer from the same problems.
