Techniques for generating action recommendations for a data tape system are disclosed. A data tape system generates action recommendations for a data tape based on library-based metadata messages as well as a measured data quality value of the data tape. The system initiates an operation resulting in the data tape interacting with a media drive. A data tape library controller generates one or more metadata messages based on a result of a requested operation. The metadata message may include information regarding the type of error and a default recommended course of action. The system generates the recommended action for the data tape using a trained machine learning model.

Data tape media quality validation and action recommendation

Techniques for generating action recommendations for a data tape system based on a media drive calibration are disclosed. A system receives a request to perform an operation including an exchange between a data tape and a media drive. If the system determines that the operation is a data tape validation operation, the system determines whether the media drive is calibrated. If the calibration value of the media drive does not meet a threshold, the system performs a calibration procedure. The system may calibrate the media drive or replace the media drive with a calibrated media drive. The system performs the validation operation. Based on a validation result, a data tape quality value, and the media drive calibration value, the system generates a recommended action for a data tape.

Each user interface includes a first screen displaying graphics or analysis tables based on the tape storage analytics data. The method includes receiving user input selecting the displayed graphics or an item within a cell of the analysis table and modifying the user interface to display a second screen, which presents a subset of the tape storage analytics data corresponding to operation of at least one of one or more tape libraries or library components (e.g., robots and elevators), tape drives, and tape media within the tape libraries or, alternatively, activities involving any of a combination of these components. The receiving and modifying steps are repeated to navigate between data corresponding to a tape library, a tape drive, and media and to operations involving these and other tape library components.

A system for monitoring and analyzing operation of a tape infrastructure. The system includes a plurality of real and virtual tape libraries each including a plurality of tape drives and tape media. The system includes a server linked to the tape library. On the server, a storage tape analytics application is provided that functions to extract raw data sets from the tape library corresponding to operations of the tape library. The data pertains to use of the drives and media during data storage operations and data about the activities of the real or virtual tape libraries. The analytics application stores the extracted data sets in an analytics database. The analytics application provides a user interface for viewing data in the analytics database, e.g., a GUI operable by monitoring personnel to view and interact with the gathered and processed tape operations monitoring data to provide historical and user-driven analysis of data for an entire data center.
