A guiding sheath has a braided layer for improved deflection characteristics and ring electrodes for electrical sensing, mapping and visualization, wherein lead wires for the ring electrodes are passed through lumened tubing position under the braided layer in a proximal portion of the guiding sheath shaft and above the braided layer in a distal portion of the guiding sheath shaft. Moreover, the hemostatic valve includes an improved friction ring with air vents to reduce the risk of air being introduced into the valve.

A gastrectomy device includes an elongated member defining a centerline that extends through proximal and distal ends thereof. A shape modification member coupled to the elongated member is movable relative to the centerline of the elongated member. The shape modification member is movable between a first state, adjacent to the elongated member, and a second state, spaced from the elongated member. A transcatheter method of gathering tissue of a heart valve leaflet may include inserting an elongated catheter assembly to a position adjacent the heart valve leaflet, the catheter assembly including a capture tool moveable between a retracted position and an extended position, a tissue support, and a clamping member moveable between an open position and a closed position. The capture tool may be partially retracted to gather tissue of the heart valve leaflet between the tissue support and the clamping member. The clamping member may then be moved from the open position toward the closed position so as to clamp a substantial portion of the gathered tissue of the heart valve leaflet between the tissue support and the clamping member. Subsequently, a clip may be applied from the catheter assembly to the clamped tissue so as to hold the clamped tissue substantially in a gathered configuration.

A device for transcatheter gathering of tissue of a heart valve leaflet may include an elongated tube extending in a longitudinal direction and a capture tool moveable in the elongated tube between a retracted position and an extended position. The elongated tube may have at least one slot extending generally in the longitudinal direction from a distal end of the elongated tube. The at least one slot may have an open end at the distal end of the elongated tube and a closed end remote therefrom. The capture tool may be operable to gather tissue of the heart valve leaflet into the at least one slot. The gathered tissue may have a pleated configuration.

A device for transcatheter gathering of tissue of a heart valve leaflet may include an elongated tube, a capture tool moveable in the tube between a retracted position and an extended position, a tissue support located within a distal portion of the tube, and a clamping member pivotable in the tube between an open position spaced from the tissue support and a closed position adjacent the tissue support. The clamping member may have a flattened clamping portion and a C-shaped portion that defines a pocket therein. An open side of the C-shaped portion may face the tissue support. The capture tool and the clamping member may be operable to gather and clamp tissue between the tissue support and the clamping member, such that the clamped tissue has a gathered configuration. The device may also include a releasable clip adapted to hold the clamped tissue in the gathered configuration.

A device includes a clip including first and second arms distal ends of which are biased apart and a core member including first and second portions connected to one another via a frangible link. The first portion includes a first protrusion for engaging a cut-out in the first arm. The frangible link is fractured when subjected to a load of at least a predetermined level deploying the clip. The device also includes a capsule slidably housing the core member and a proximal portion of the clip.

Multifunctional core for two-piece hemostasis clip

An instrument for controlling bleeding includes an outer shaft, an intermediate shaft telescopically received within a central lumen of the outer shaft, and an inner shaft telescopically received within a central lumen of the intermediate shaft, the inner shaft having a proximal end and a distal end that extends distally from the intermediate shaft. The instrument includes a hemostat disposed at the distal end of the inner shaft, and a fluid-resistant element connected to the distal end of the outer shaft and surrounding the hemostat. The fluid-resistant element has a breakable, fluid-resistant seal at a distal end thereof that protects the hemostat from fluids until the hemostat is delivered and deployed onto tissue. In one embodiment, the instrument includes an inflatable balloon to deploy and tamponade the hemostat.

Applicator instruments having protective carriers for hemostats and methods therefor

An instrument for deploying hemostats has an intermediate shaft having a proximal end, a distal end, and a central lumen, and an inner shaft telescopically received within the central lumen of the intermediate shaft. The instrument includes an inflatable balloon, a first actuator for inflating the balloon, and a second actuator for moving the distal ends of the intermediate and inner shafts relative to one another for changing the shape of the inflated balloon. A proximal end of the balloon is secured to the distal end of the intermediate shaft and the distal end of the balloon is secured to the distal end of the inner shaft. The intermediate and inner shafts are moveable so that the inflated balloon has a toroidal shape and a flattened distal face. The inflated balloon has a major axis that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the intermediate shaft.
