A method for regulating a coupling formation includes sensing a temperature of a coupling with a non-contact sensor and sending the temperature to a control unit that regulates the temperature of the coupling formation. In addition, a system for regulating a temperature of a coupling formation includes a temperature control unit and a non-contact sensor in flow communication with the temperature control unit.

Method and system for regulating a temperature of coupling formations

A method for determining optimum enamel die sizes for each of a plurality of dies for fabricating magnet wire includes a series of calculations based upon an empirically determined build factor for each of the enamel coatings used in the fabrication process. The build factor is a measure of the effective diameter increase of a wire passed through a coating die when the diameter of the wire entering the die is known and a selected thickness of wet enamel coating exiting the die is known. The build factor a given enamel coating is primarily dependent upon only the solids content of the enamel coating solution, and is largely independent of the chemistry of the coating solution. A simple relationship between build factor, die size, and wire size allows consistent fabrication of magnet wire in accordance with pre-selected specifications and with virtually no scrapped wire due to oversized final wire diameters.

Method and apparatus for determining magnet wire production die sets

Apparatus and methods for inspecting electrical connections so as to determine the presence of fault connections between magnet wires and power leads are described. The apparatus includes a processing unit, a power supply unit, and a temperature sensing unit. The processing unit includes a programmable logic controller (PLC) having a central processing unit (CPU) and a plurality of input and output slots. The power supply unit includes a power lead connector configured to couple to the motor power leads and a power relay coupled to the PLC. The temperature sensing unit includes infrared thermometers to determine the temperature at the electrical connections between the stator magnet wires forming the motor windings and the power leads. The outputs of the thermometers are coupled to the programmable logic controller (PLC).

Methods and apparatus for electrical connection inspection

A gas generating apparatus and method is described which utilizes a novel catalytic halogen evolving electrode for electrochemical systems, such as an electrolysis cell for the generation of chlorine. The electrochemical cells include a catalytic cathode and an improved catalytic anode positioned on opposite sides of, and bonded to, a solid polymer electrolyte membrane. A source of direct current potential between the cathode and the anode and means for removing gas from at least one of the electrodes are provided. The improved catalytic anode is an alloy of ruthenium oxide and manganese oxide. In one embodiment, chlorine is electrolytically generated by providing a catalytic cathode; providing a catalytic chlorine evolving anode wherein the chlorine evolving anode comprises ruthenium oxide and manganese oxide; positioning a solid polymer electrolyte ion transporting membrane between the cathode and the anode, the cathode being bonded to one surface of the membrane and the anode being bonded to the other surface of the membrane; and providing a direct potential between the cathode and the anode and supplying brine to one of the electrodes to be acted on electrochemically to evolve chlorine at the anode. By adding the manganese oxide to the ruthenium oxide, the ruthenium oxide is stabilized, and there is substantial improvement in anode life in an electrolysis cell when the ruthenium oxide/manganese oxide catalyst material is used as an anode therein without sacrifice to cell efficiency and cell voltage.

Halogen evolution with improved anode catalyst

A method of making substantially oxide-free metal alloys is described. The alloys are made by a hot alkaline reduction of compounds of at least two metals, such as the halides of the metals dissolved in an aqueous medium containing a reducing agent. The dissolved metal compounds containing a first reducing agent are added to a second reducing agent, in a alkaline medium, and the substantially oxide-free, finely-divided alloy precipitates from solution. The alloy has a unique X-ray diffraction pattern indicating that it is a true alloy with no metal oxides present. In a preferred embodiment, ruthenium and platinum chlorides are dissolved in water containing a dissolved reducing agent. This solution is added to a second reducing agent in an alkaline medium at elevated temperatures, and a finely-divided black precipitate of a true alloy of ruthenium and platinum forms. The X-ray diffraction pattern shows a distorted ruthenium structure having platinum in solid solution. Oxygen evolution catalysis was substantially improved in an electrochemical cell having a catalytic cathode made of this alloy of platinum and ruthenium.

By adding the manganese oxide to the ruthenium oxide, the ruthenium oxide is stabilized, and there is substantial improvement in cell voltage in an electrolysis cell when the ruthenium oxide/manganese oxide catalyst material is used as an anode therein.
