A method of providing topology information about a network to a topology manager is disclosed. The network includes a plurality of sensors each having a sensor ID, and the method includes performing the following steps at each of the plurality of sensors: receiving a stream of packets and identifying a topology trace packet in the stream of packets, wherein the topology trace packet has a destination address and an ID of a previous sensor, including the sensor ID in the topology trace packet, sending the topology trace packet to the destination address, forming a report message so as to include the sensor ID, the previous sensor ID, sending the report to the topology manager; and, providing network addresses of adjacent nodes to the topology manager.

Method and system for collecting topology information

A method of network testing relies on communication with an unaddressed test device. The method includes collection of network addresses from packets passing through the test device and a discovery procedure. The collected addresses are provided to a remote control device, and used for communication between the test device and the control device.

Network communication at unaddressed network devices

A method of protecting memory locations in an embedded system using a write filter. The method includes the steps of starting a write filter that intercepts writes to the protected memory locations and stores the writes in a cache; starting a state machine with a change state and a normal state; upon starting the state machine, entering the change state when an indication is present that data needs to be persisted to the protected memory otherwise entering the normal state; in the normal state identifying critical writes to the protected memory and creating at least one update file containing the changes in such writes; and in the change state, applying the changes in the update file and rebooting the system in a manner that persists the changes to the protected memory.

Apparatus and method for control of write filter

A system operatively connected to a network and method thereof includes a voice quality tester (VQT) to generate a calling signal and an automated voice responder unit (VRU) to receive the calling signal. The autonomous VRU and the VQT include a first task list and a second task list, respectively, allowing the autonomous VRU to synchronize with the VQT and perform a series of voice quality tests of the network without any external I/O control.

Autonomous voice responder unit

A computer system having at least primary and secondary partitions, a primary write filter for write-protecting the primary partition, and a state machine. The state machine, in response to a need to write persistent data to the primary partition, boots to the secondary partition, disables the primary write filter, boots to the primary partition, writes persistent data to the primary partition, re-enables the primary write filter, and then reboots to the primary partition.
