There is provided a system for use with a fiber-optic current transducer. The system includes a processing unit configured to transduce a first light signal into a first electrical signal. The processing unit is further configured to transduce a second light signal into a second electrical signal. Furthermore, the processing unit is configured to remove offsets from the first electrical signal and the second electrical signal by forcing the first electrical signal and the second electrical signal to be on the same per unit basis.

Current transducer with offset cancellation

The articles of manufacture a roller with an offset handle that is part of paint brush and roller system. The roller has an offset handle in which the painter grips above the plane of the roller. The handle is removable from the roller and can be used with different sizes of brush heads. The handle is designed such that the ordination of the roller's painting surface can be changed.

Roller system

The articles of manufacture make up a paint brush and roller system. The system is comprised of two different handles that takes different brushes and rollers. One handle is a straight handle similar to paintbrush handles on the market except it is fatter. The second handle is a handle in which the paint brush bristles are perpendicular to the individuals grip. The individual can paint without moving one's wrist. The system comes with a set of interchangeable brushes and rollers. The handles have at their top a dovetail groove. The brush heads have at their bottom a dovetail. The brush heads' dovetail fits within the handle's dovetail groove and is held in place by friction. The roller has a dove tail that fits within the handles' dovetail groove.

Paint brush and roller system

The invention is a paint brush with the handle perpendicular to the brushes bristles. The brush is made up of a handle section, a brush head holder section and a brush head section. The brush head section and the bush head holder section is attached to the handle such that the handle is perpendicular to the bristles of the brush head section. The brush head section is releasably attached to the brush head section. This enables several different brush head section of differing sizes to be placed on the same handle.

Paint brush with perpendicular handle and interchangeable brush heads

A system for optimizing customer utility usage in a utility network of customer sites, each having one or more utility devices, where customer site is communicated between each of the customer sites and an optimization server having software for optimizing customer utility usage over one or more networks, including private and public networks. A customer site model for each of the customer sites is generated based upon the customer site information, and the customer utility usage is optimized based upon the customer site information and the customer site model. The optimization server can be hosted by an external source or within the customer site. In addition, the optimization processing can be partitioned between the customer site and an external source.

Energy optimization system

An electrical generator for extraction of electrical power from a gas turbine engine includes a rotor portion and a stator portion disposed within a booster cavity of the gas turbine engine. The rotor portion is rotatably supported about the stator portion. The stator portion rigidly is supported within the booster cavity. The rotor portion has a plurality of poles circumferentially arranged opposite the stator portion. The stator portion includes a plurality of coil portions disposed about an outer periphery of the stator portion adjacent to the stator portion. The stator and rotor portions are configured to generate electrical power when the rotor portion is rotated about the stator portion by a shaft of the gas turbine engine to induce electrical currents in the coil portions. The electrical generator extracts electric power from the turbine engine to supplement primary electrical generation sources of the engine.

Integrated boost cavity ring generator for turbofan and turboshaft engines

A gas turbine engine assembly includes an electromagnetic machine for extracting power from the turbine engine. The electromagnetic machine includes an outer rotor and an inner rotor rotatably supported adjacent to a stator disposed between the inner and outer rotors. The stator has an inner set of windings disposed on an inner surface adjacent to the inner rotor, and an outer set of windings on an outer surface of the stator adjacent to the outer rotor. The inner stator windings form a set of multiple-phase windings, and the outer stator windings form a set of multiple-phase windings.

Gas turbine engine assembly including dual sided/dual shaft electrical machine

An electromagnetically variable transmission includes an outer rotor and an inner rotor. The inner rotor is independently rotatable within a center aperture of the outer rotor. The outer rotor is independently rotatable about the inner rotor. One of the rotors has a plurality of permanent magnets configured in pairs and facing an air gap disposed between the outer rotor and the inner rotor. The other rotor has a plurality of slots spaced about a magnetically permeable core having embedded windings. The outer inner rotors are simultaneously rotatable in one direction. In response to rotation of the outer rotor portion and the inner rotor portion, a magnetic flux path is generated between the permanent magnet pairs, the air gap, the outer rotor core and the inner rotor portion core, to induce electrical power in the windings, which transfers power between the inner rotor portion and the outer rotor portion.

Electromagnetic variable transmission

A system for transferring mechanical torque variably between a plurality of rotating machines in a turbofan engine. Two devices are used, where the first device relies upon magnetic properties of a planetary magnetic gearbox to couple the magnetic machines. The second device is used to variably control the torque transfer between the magnetic machines. The system couples rotating shafts rotating at differing speeds within a turbofan engine for controllably transferring power. To transfer power in the system, a fixed gear ratio is obtained by coupling the relatively high- and low-speed engine shafts to an epicyclic magnetic gearbox.

Variable coupling of turbofan engine spools via open differential gear set or simple planetary gear set for improved power extraction and engine operability, with torque coupling for added flexibility

A system for transferring torque between a pair of independently, concurrently rotating shafts of a turbofan engine includes a magnetic gearbox. The magnetic gearbox has a first ring structure, a second ring structure and an intermediate ring structure. Each ring structure has an annular aperture therethrough and a plurality of permanent magnets embedded therein. The intermediate ring structure is disposed between the first and the second ring structures. Each ring structure is coaxially concentric with, and independently rotatable with respect to the remaining ring structures. The first and second ring structures are each coupled to separate ones of the rotating engine shafts, and the intermediate ring is operable to transfer torque between the pair of shafts. Preferably, the intermediate ring structure is coupled to a rotating machine. The rotating machine has a controller, and is operable for adjusting a ratio of torque transferred between the pair of shafts.

Variable magnetic coupling of rotating machinery

An electromagnetic machine for extracting power from a turbine engine includes an outer rotor and an inner rotor rotatably supported adjacent to a stator. The stator is disposed between the inner and outer rotors. The stator has an inner set of windings disposed on an inner surface adjacent to the inner rotor, and an outer set of windings on an outer surface of the stator adjacent to the outer rotor. A plurality of permanent magnets are disposed on an inner surface of the outer rotor element and on an outer surface of the inner rotor element. Air gaps are defined between the outer surface of the stator and the outer permanent magnets, and between the inner surface of the stator portion and the inner permanent magnets. The inner stator windings form a set of multiple-phase windings, and the outer stator windings form a set of multiple-phase windings.

Double-sided starter/generator for aircrafts

A synchronous reluctance machine is provided. The synchronous reluctance machine includes a stator having a stator core, the stator core including a number of fractional-slot concentrated windings wound around multiple stator teeth. The synchronous reluctance machine also includes a rotor having a rotor core and disposed with an air gap inside and concentric with the stator, wherein the rotor core includes a number of laminated sheets, wherein each of the laminated sheets is axially skewed with respect to neighboring ones of the laminated sheets, and wherein each of the laminated sheets includes multiple ferromagnetic regions and multiple non-ferromagnetic regions formed of a single material.

Synchronous reluctance machine

A system for generating supplemental electrical power from the low-pressure (LP) turbine spool of a turbofan engine includes a high-speed, high magnetic pole count, generator, a gearbox, a controller and a power converter. The LP turbine spool is mechanically coupled to the generator portion by the gearbox for driving the generator portion. The controller portion has a speed-sensing element for sensing the LP turbine speed. The controller portion disables the power converter when the generator exceeds a predetermined speed, and enables the power converter when the generator portion is less or equal to the predetermined speed. The effective load on the generator is reduced to approximately zero when the LP turbine spool exceeds the predetermined speed, permitting the generator to be electrically bound up to the predetermined speed and mechanically bound in excess of the predetermined speed.

High-speed high-pole count generators

A permanent magnet (PM) machine has a reconfigurable fault condition mechanism disposed solely within a stator core portion, wherein the mechanism is automatically reconfigurable to reduce fault currents associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. The reconfigurable fault condition mechanism is automatically reconfigurable to also reduce internal heat associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. A method of reconfiguring the fault condition mechanism upon detection of a fault condition includes the steps of 1) selecting the reconfigurable fault condition mechanism from a) a plurality of rotatable magnetically anisotropic cylinders disposed within stator core slots, b) a plurality of ferrofluid-fillable cavities associated with stator core slots, and c) a sliding shield within the stator core; and 2) reconfiguring the fault condition mechanism to automatically reduce fault currents associated with the PM machine upon detection of a fault condition.

Fault-tolerant permanent magnet machine with reconfigurable stator core slot flux paths

A permanent magnet (PM) machine includes a plurality of reconfigurable fault condition mechanisms disposed within a stator core portion, the plurality of reconfigurable fault condition mechanisms together automatically reconfigurable to reduce fault currents and internal heat associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. The plurality of reconfigurable fault condition mechanisms are disposed solely within the stator core portion according to one embodiment to automatically reduce stator winding fault currents and internal heat associated with the PM machine during a fault condition. A method of reconfiguring the fault condition mechanisms upon detecting a fault condition includes the steps of 1) selecting the plurality of reconfigurable fault condition mechanisms from a) a plurality of rotatable magnetically anisotropic cylinders disposed both within a stator back iron and stator slot openings, and b) a plurality of rotatable magnetically anisotropic cylinders disposed within a stator back iron and a sliding shield disposed with a stator slot opening portion of the stator core, and 2) reconfiguring the plurality of fault condition mechanisms together to automatically reduce fault currents associated with the PM machine upon detection of a fault condition.
