A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a synthesis engine having a controller, and a storage medium for storing instructions to be executed by the controller. The instructions, when executed by the controller, can cause the controller to retrieve collected information associated with a behavior of an individual, synthesize from the information a measure of a mood of the individual to interact with others, and transmit the measure to a system associated with the individual to manage requests between the individual and the entity. The measure of the mood of the individual can indicate an availability of the individual and a receptiveness of the individual to accept a request to interact with an entity. The measure can be described by a plurality of dimensions. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Systems and methods for managing interactions between an individual and an entity

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a metaphor engine having a controller, and a storage medium for storing instructions to be executed by the controller. The instructions, when executed by the controller, cause the controller to receive a measure of a mood of an individual, create a metaphor according to the measure of the mood of the individual, and present the metaphor to an entity requesting to interact with the individual. The measure of the mood can be synthesized from collected information associated with a behavior of the individual, and can indicate an availability of the individual and a receptiveness of the individual to accept a request to interact with an entity. Systems and methods for presenting metaphors

An apparatus includes a network interface. The apparatus includes a processor coupled to the network interface. The apparatus further includes memory accessible to the processor. The memory includes instructions executable by the processor to perform operations. The operations include receiving user history data based on operation of a customer premise equipment device. The operations include determining additional information based on information extrapolated from the user history data. The operations include dynamically generating a user interface based on the user history data and based on the additional information. The operations further include initiating a transmission of the user interface to the customer premise equipment device.

Rule-based selection of content

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, an intermediary engine having a controller, and a storage medium for storing instructions to be executed by the controller. The instructions, when executed by the controller, can cause the controller to receive a measure of a mood of an individual, invoke an intermediary according to the measure of the mood of the individual, and present the intermediary to an entity requesting to interact with the individual. The measure of the mood can be synthesized from collected information associated with a behavior of the individual, and can have a plurality of dimensions. The mood can also indicate an availability of the individual and a receptiveness of the individual to accept a request to interact with an entity. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Systems and methods for presenting intermediaries

An apparatus includes a network interface. The apparatus includes a processor coupled to the network interface. The apparatus further includes memory accessible to the processor. The memory includes instructions that are executable by the processor to perform operations. The operations include receiving user history information associated with customer premise equipment device. The operations include generating a rule associated with a startup screen based on the user history information and based on additional information. The additional information is based on information extrapolated from the user history information and based on external information that is not directly accessed by or provided to the customer premise equipment device. The operations further include initiating a transmission of the rule to the customer premise equipment device.

A method includes, at a customer premise equipment (CPE) device, accessing data descriptive of content available via a network coupled to a network interface of the CPE device. A plurality of rules are analyzed using a forward-inferencing rules engine to determine whether one or more of the rules are satisfied based on the data. The rules include at least one user-defined rule and at least one automatically generated rule, where the at least one automatically generated rule is automatically generated based on user history information. The method includes selecting particular content of the content available via the network for presentation via a display device.

A particular customer premises equipment (CPE) device includes a display interface, a processor, and a memory accessible to the processor. The memory includes a plurality of media files that include user assistance information. The memory also includes instructions executable by the processor to access a media file of the plurality of media files and, in response to a user request for assistance, send content of the media file to a display device via a display interface.
