Apparatus and devices for carrying a storage device and adapting it to a slot for a storage device having a different form factor. The system comprises an opening means for elastically deforming a shape of the system from an original shape so that the carrier may receive the storage device. The system also comprises restraining means for constraining the motion of the storage device within the system when the system returns to the original shape. Furthermore, the system comprises a spacing means for aligning the storage device with the slot while the storage device is restrained within the system.

Methods and systems for removably mounting a Solid State Drive (SSD) to a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) device without use of a tool. An exemplary system comprises a top portion and at least two flexible legs. Each leg comprises a vertical member attached to the top portion, and a tab for insertion into the PCB, the tab restricting the motion of the drive enclosure with respect to the PCB when inserted into the PCB, thereby allowing for removable attachment of the enclosure to the PCB without use of a tool. The drive enclosure itself is adapted to receive the SSD and adapted to align the SSD for physical coupling with a connector for the PCB.

Drive enclosures for tool-less removable mounting of solid state drives onto printed circuit board devices

Devices and systems for tool-less assembly of cable chains that are capable of being retractably stored. The device comprises a first contact element, a second contact element, and a lengthwise member. The first contact element is adapted for movable contact with a receiving member of a first cable chain segment. The second contact element is adapted for movable contact with a receiving member of a second cable chain segment. The lengthwise member is fixedly attached to the contact elements. When an angle between the first and the second cable chain segments is a first value, the lengthwise member experiences elastic deformation, generating a spring force at each contact element sufficient to pull the receiving member of the first cable chain segment rotatably towards the receiving member of the second cable chain segment, thereby reducing the angle between the first and the second cable chain segments to a second value.

Thermal control through a channel structure is disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes devices operable at an undesired temperature relative to a desired operating temperature, a vented cover of each of devices, and a channel structure formed along a side face of each of the devices, the channel structure having any number of ridges to transfer a gas between the vented cover and an external location to the apparatus. The gas may modify an operating state of the devices from the undesired temperature to the desired operating temperature. A heat structure coupled to the vented cover and the side face may absorb a portion of an energy dissipated by at least one of the devices. A printed circuit board may be formed along an opposite face relative to the vented cover to enable the gas to escape to the external location through a cavity of the apparatus.

Thermal control through a channel structure

The present invention enables assembly of drive boxes that stack drives more than one drive deep without requiring large numbers of PC boards or that the drive box to be pulled out of a rack to remove/replace the drives. A shielded multiple drive plug-in cable connects a single PC board to a plurality of drives in the drive box. The multiple drive plug-in cable provides power from the PC board to the drives and/or passes signal between the PC board and the drives. The multiple drive plug-in cable is configured to occupy a minimal cross-sectional area in order to maximize air flow within the drive box. The present invention reduces the cost of manufacturing the drive box, reduces EMI (electromagnetic interference), and prevents drops in signal integrity by reducing the number of PC boards required for a drive box.

A rack mount drive blade system having a chassis and a drive blade. The chassis has at least one blade bay to accept a drive blade, where the chassis accepts the drive blade into the blade bay with the drive blade in a horizontal orientation. Each blade bay has chassis to blade electrical contacts including at least one cable having a length, for making electrical connections between the chassis and the drive blade. Each blade bay also has slot portions for engaging the drive blade along a length of the drive blade. The chassis has at least one module bay to accept a shared resource module, where each module bay has chassis to module electrical contacts, for making electrical connections between the chassis and the shared resource module. The drive blade has a printed circuit board for providing electrical connections to and from components on the drive blade. The drive blade has at least one hard drive, and drive blade electrical contacts for making electrical connections to the chassis through the at least one cable. The drive blade has rail portions disposed along the length of the drive blade, the rail portions for engaging the slot portions of the bay. The drive blade can be at least partially removed from the chassis without breaking the electrical connections between the chassis and the drive blade.

A computer storage enclosure may comprise a mounting chassis and a computer drive apparatus. The mounting chassis may have a plurality of computer drive guides, a plurality of cam pins, and a mounting chassis disengagement ramp. The computer drive apparatus may include a computer drive, a plurality of shoulder screws, and a computer drive handle. The computer drive apparatus may be mounted on the mounting chassis utilizing the shoulder screws guided by the computer drive guides and secured by the computer drive handle, the cam pins, and the shoulder screws. The computer drive apparatus may include a blade drive and be hot-swappable.

Disclosed is an articulated cable chainthat has a flat spring that initiates a first folding curve that holds the articulated cable chainin a tight radius. Once the first folding curveis properly initiated, the remaining folding curves in the articulated cable chainare folded at the proper locations and have a small radii, even though the cable within the articulated cable chain tends to cause the cable chain to maintain a straighter configuration.
