A field-sequential display is operated in one of a color mode or a grayscale mode. In the color mode, a video source provides image content in the form of multiple-color image data having a frame rate of X Hz and a display controller uses the multiple-color image data to drive the field-sequential display so as provide multiple-color image content at the field-sequential display. In the grayscale mode, the display controller generates grayscale image data from the multiple-color image data and the display controller then drives the field-sequential display with the grayscale image data at a lower frame rate of Y Hz. While in the grayscale mode, the display controller can take advantage of the enhanced contrast provided by the grayscale image content to reduce or disable backlighting at the field-sequential display. The reduced timing requirements afforded by the lower frame rate, as well as the reduction or elimination of backlighting, can reduce power consumption compared to the color mode.

Grayscale-based field-sequential display for low power operation

An information handling system display backlight illuminates an image with plural strings of LEDs driven by a backlight driver integrated circuit with pulse width modulation. A string detection module detects the number of active LED strings and divides the time period by number of active LED strings into an equal number of time delays or shifts so that the backlight driver sequentially turns on an LED string at a predetermined time period. The active number of LED strings is detected by reading a total number of LED strings from a management interface and subtracting from the total number any detected failed LED strings or any LED strings powered down to reduce power consumption.

System and method for sequential driving of information handling system display backlight LED strings

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, an information handling system is provided. The information handling system may include a processor; a display coupled to the processor, the display comprising a pixel clock source configured to generate a pixel clock frequency; a memory device coupled to the processor, the memory device having a lookup table stored thereon; and a controller coupled to the processor and configured for: receiving frequency information associated with wireless transmissions of the information handling system; and dynamically adjusting the pixel clock frequency by selecting a frequency from the lookup table in response to a determination that the received frequency information is approximately equal to the pixel clock frequency.

Systems and methods for managing dynamic clock operations during wireless transmissions

A Red, Green, Blue Light Emitting Device (RGB LED) backlight color control system includes an RGB LED backlight comprising a red LED, a green LED, and a blue LED. A driving current regulator is coupled to each of the red LED, the green LED, and the blue LED. A backlight power control is coupled to each of the driving current regulators and operable to receive adjustment data and use the adjustment data to adjust the driving current supplied by at least one of the driving current regulators to at least one of the red LED, the green LED, and the blue LED. By adjusting the driving current supplied to the red LED, green LED, and/or the blue LED, color pallet points on a color triangle (associated with a display that uses the RGB LED backlight) are shifted to achieve the color desired by the user, avoiding the loss of color pallet points in the color triangle that occurs with conventional re-mapping techniques.

A method for implementing a user selectable white level includes displaying a default white patch of a default shade of white on a display, displaying a modified white patch of a modified shade of white that is different than the default shade of white on the display, receiving a selection of the modified white patch, associating another default shade of white with the modified shade of white in response to receiving the selection, receiving pixel data for a pixel, the pixel data comprising color information for displaying the default shade of white, and displaying the pixel with the second default shade of white.
