The present is directed to systems for ex vivo testing performance of a hemostatic or sealing product attached to an animal organ and fully covering a cored channel in said organ, comprising: a pressure sensor positioned proximate to said hemostatic or sealing product in said cored channel; a monitoring or recording device configured to receive pressure readings from said pressure sensor; and a pressurized fluid source connected to said cored channel and configured to supply said pressurized fluid into said cored channel under constant or variable pressure. The present invention is also directed to methods of use for such systems.

A system for testing sutures includes a test bench having a rotatable table, a framework supporting the test bench and the rotatable table above a surface, and a continuous passive motion (CPM) machine mounted on the rotatable table. The CPM machine is configured to rotate between a first position in which the CPM machine is upright and located above the rotatable table and a second position in which the CPM machine is inverted and located below the rotatable table. The system includes a fluid supply subsystem for directing an infusion fluid toward the CPM machine, a pump for circulating the infusion fluid in the fluid supply subsystem, a heat exchanger for heating the infusion fluid, a fluid collection tray located below the CPM machine and the rotatable table, and a pressure monitoring subsystem for monitoring a pressure level of the infusion fluid.

The present invention relates to circular anastomosis stapler and kits comprising reinforcing buttress materials and fixation tools that are slidably installed on the anvil shaft of such staplers which provides a temporary mechanical fixation of a reinforcing buttress to the anvil surface of a circular stapler during the insertion of the anvil into the tubular tissue. When the anvil, loaded with the buttress, is in the desired location, the fixation tool is pulled back along the anvil shaft and removed. An apparatus includes an end effector including an anvil and lower jaw. The anvil is pivotable toward the lower jaw to capture tissue. The apparatus further includes a stapling and severing assembly configured to sever and staple tissue clamped between the anvil and the lower jaw. A staple cartridge is coupled with the lower jaw. The staple cartridge includes a deck facing the anvil, a plurality of staples positioned in a plurality of staple openings formed through the deck, and a magnetic feature configured to be coupled to tissue in response to activation of the stapling and severing mechanism. The magnetic feature is configured to be coupled to tissue in response to actuation of the staple cartridge, wherein the magnetic feature is configured to retain at least one outer portion of stapled tissue in an inwardly folded position relative to an inner portion of stapled tissue.

In one embodiment, a surgical device is described that can include at least one nozzle formed at a proximal end of the device that is configured to receive a sealant, as well as an applicator formed at a distal end of the device that is configured to deliver the sealant received by the at least one nozzle. The applicator can be configured to interface with at least one of a first and second jaw of a surgical stapler such that the sealant delivered from the applicator can be deposited into a plurality of openings formed in the surgical stapler.

A novel system and apparatus for testing surgical fastening devices in an ex-vivo body wall wound closure simulation device is disclosed. The system is particularly useful with simulating abdominal wall wound closure. The system has a body wall curvature approximator device, a tissue fixation system, and a tissue support and tensioner device. The system provides for anatomically correct presentation and tensioning on body wall tissue specimens for ex-vivo wound closure simulation. The system may also be used for other anatomic tissue specimens in addition to body walls.

A system for examining a colon includes a catheter, such as a rectal catheter, having a proximal end, a distal end, and a central lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end of the catheter, and a flexible tube coupled with the catheter. The system includes a first balloon located adjacent a distal end of the flexible tube, and a second balloon extending around the catheter and being located between the distal and proximal ends of the catheter, whereby the distance between the first and second balloons is adjustable by sliding the flexible tube through the central lumen of the catheter. The first and second balloons are inflatable for isolating a section of a colon, and a gas or contrast agent may be introduced into the isolated colon section for conducting the examination.
