A positive control signature transferring assembly, for use in a lower folder, transports and diverts signatures under positive control. The assembly has a first positive control deceleration device having grippers for transporting some of the signatures of a stream of signatures to a first delivery stream. The assembly has a gripper cylinder containing a plurality of grippers for gripping a leading edge and a trailing edge of each of the remaining signatures in the signature stream for transporting the signatures on the gripper cylinder. A second positive control deceleration device has grippers for transporting the remaining signatures released by the gripper cylinder to a second delivery stream. In this manner, the signatures are positively controlled at all times and alignment and fixed pitch errors are significantly reduced.

An improved printing press includes a tubular-shaped printing blanket removably disposed on a blanket cylinder rotatably supported by a frame and having an outer circumferential surface. The printing blanket is disposed in rolling engagement with a conventional printing plate disposed on a plate cylinder having an axially extending gap in which opposite ends of the printing plate are secured. The printing blanket is removed by opening a portion of the frame and axially sliding the printing blanket off of the blanket cylinder. The blanket cylinder has passages which deliver a stream of air to the outer surface of the blanket cylinder which expands the inner circumferential surface of the printing blanket so that the blanket can be axially removed or inserted onto the blanket cylinder. The printing blanket has a metal inner surface which is tensioned by the blanket cylinder to retain the printing blanket on the blanket cylinder during operation of the press. The printing blanket is at least partially formed of a compressible material.

Offset lithographic printing press

An improved printing press includes a tubular-shaped printing blanket removably disposed on a blanket cylinder rotatably supported by a frame and having a continuous outer circumferential surface which is free of gaps. The printing blanket is disposed in rolling engagement with a conventional printing plate disposed on a plate cylinder having an axially extending gap in which opposite ends of the printing plate are secured. The printing blanket is removed by opening a portion of the frame and axially sliding the printing blanket off of the blanket cylinder. To assist in the removal or insertion of the printing blanket the blanket cylinder has passages which deliver a stream of air to the outer surface of the blanket cylinder which expands the inner circumferential surface of the printing blanket so that the blanket can be axially removed or inserted onto the blanket cylinder. The printing blanket has a metal inner surface which is tensioned by the blanket cylinder to retain the printing blanket on the blanket cylinder during operation of the press. The printing blanket is at least partially formed of a compressible material which is compressed by the plate cylinder at a nip between the plate and blanket cylinders.

A golf club head cover for use with golf clubs having graphite shafts has a generally hollow, cylindrically shaped head cover for the head of a golf club. The head cover has a closed upper end and an open lower end. The head cover is made of a first member of a semi-cylindrical shape; and this member has an elongated shaft protector secured to it externally from the closed upper end and extending beyond the open lower end of the first member. The portion of the shaft protector which extends beyond the open bottom of the first member has closure elements on it for closing the shaft protector around a shaft of a golf club.

A lock-up assembly (20) for securing a printing plate (22) on a plate cylinder (10) includes a rotatable lock bar (32) and a spring biased linkage mechanism (36). The linkage mechanism (36) has a first over-center condition in which it rotates the lock bar (32) toward a locked position, and has a second over-center condition in which it rotates the lock bar (32) toward an unlocked position. A movable blocking member (82) blocks the linkage mechanism (36) from switching to the second over-center condition under the influence of centrifugal force when the cylinder (10) is rotating during a printing operation. A hand held tool (40) engages the linkage mechanism (36) to switch it between the first and second over-center conditions upon manual manipulation of the tool (40). The tool (40) also engages the blocking member (82) to move the blocking member (82) from the first position to the second position when the tool (40) is moved into engagement with the linkage mechanism ( 36).

Lock-up assembly for securing a printing plate on a plate cylinder

An improved printing apparatus and method includes plate and blanket cylinders which are rotated at different surface speeds during printing on material. Since the plate and blanket cylinders are rotated at different surface speeds, the area on a blanket cylinder which engages a given portion of the surface on a plate cylinder is changed on each revolution of the blanket cylinder. Therefore, the area of a blanket cylinder which is engaged by the gap in the plate cylinder changes during a printing operation. In addition, the area where an image is applied to the blanket cylinder is moved relative to the surface of the blanket cylinder is tend to minimize build up of ink on the blanket cylinder during printing. The plate and blanket cylinders are driven at different surface speeds by a drive assembly which includes a harmonic drive unit.
