Improved packaging films which can be heat sealed and then easily opened when desired are provided. The heat sealable packaging films are prepared from ionomers, acid copolymers, or mixtures thereof which are modified with polypropylene, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, and, optionally, polyethylene. The resulting films are heat sealable with a relatively low heat seal initiation temperature and with consistent seal strengths over a relatively broad heat sealing temperature range. The heat seal strength, which is retained over time, can be varied or adjusted to desired values by adjusting the composition of the modified ionomer blend. The seal can be opened in a clean manner (i.e., not stringy). Since the seal whitens upon opening, the film of this invention allows for tamper evident packaging.

Heat sealable films

Composition comprising a mixture of from about 30% to about 99.9% of a polyolefin base resin; from about 0.1% to about 50% of a graft polymerized block copolymer having polystyrene end blocks and an aliphatic middle block; from 0 to about 40% by weight of an elastomer different from the above components; and from 0 to about 30% by weight of a nonelastomeric second polyolefin made from different monomers from those of the polyolefin base resin. The composition can be used as an adhesive film or tie layer, optinally by coextrusion between layers to be joined. Coatings and coated substrates are also disclosed.

Adhesive blend of polyolefins and grafted block copolymer of polystyrene

An improved electrical cable construction is provided wherein the metallic screen is coated with a protective coating which comprises a layer of a polymer selected for its properties of high flexural modulus, high tensile strength and high melting point and an adhesive layer comprising a random, block or graft copolymer of an olefin and a polymerizable, ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, acid anhydride or derivative. Optionally, the adhesive layer may comprise a blend of the copolymer and a polyolefin.

Electrical cables

A polyvinyl alcohol alloy useful as a gas barrier material is prepared by reacting polyvinyl alcohol and a functional polymer to provide a product which has low gas permeability and water absorptivity characteristics, and which has a melting point sufficiently below its decomposition point to allow melt extrusion. The alloy may optionally be mixed with a polyolefin blending resin.

Polyvinyl alcohol alloys and method of making the same

Resin blends that are strong adhesives to various substrates and especially to polar substrates. These blends comprise (a) a graft copolymer of a polyethylene backbone grafted with at least one grafting monomer comprising one or more polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or acid derivatives such as acid anhydrides, acid esters, salts, amides, imides and the like, (b) a LDPE, a linear low density polyethylene, or an ethylene-unsaturated ester copolymer and (c) a poly (.alpha.-olefin).

Adhesive blends

Compositions of matter having among other desirable characteristics strong adhesive properties to various substrates, these compositions comprising blends of a graft copolymer of a high density polyethylene and at least one unsaturated fused ring carboxylic acid anhydride blended with a polyethylene resin of one or more homopolymers of ethylene, copolymers of ethylene and alpha-olefin, ethylene-ester copolymers and one or more elastomers such as homopolymers of isobutylene, copolymers of isobutylene with isoprene, chlorinated copolymers of isobutylene and isoprene, homopolymers of isoprene, copolymers of butadiene and styrene, block copolymers of dienes and styrene where the diene is butadiene or isoprene, homopolymers of butadiene, homopolymers of chloroprene, and copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene.

Method of making a composite structure

Composite structures comprising one or more substrates and an adhesive blend adhered thereto. The blend is strongly adhesive to various substrates and especially to various polar substrates. The blend comprises a blend of a graft copolymer of a linear low density polyethylene backbone grafted with at least one grafting monomer which is one or more polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof, blended with a polyolefin blending resin. The disclosure also includes methods of adhering the blend to one or more substrates.

Composite structures

Composite structures comprising one or more substrates and an adhesive blend comprising blends of a non-elastomeric graft copolymer of a non-polar ethylene homopolymer or copolymer backbone grafted with at least one grafting monomer comprising one or more of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or the anhydrides of such acids blended with an elastomer-free blending resin that is a mixture of one or more linear low density polyethylenes and one or more polypropylenes.

Adhesive blends comprising blends of a non-elastomeric graft copolymer of a non-polar ethylene homopolymer or copolymer backbone grafted with at least one grafting monomer comprising one or more of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or the anhydrides of such acids blended with an elastomer-free blending resin that is a mixture of one or more linear low density polyethylenes and one or more polypropylenes. These blends provide excellent adhesion to both polypropylene and polar substrates.

Adhesive blends containing ethylene polymer grafted with carboxylic

Composites of matter having properties that make them strong adhesives to various substrates, especially to polar substrates. These adhesive blends comprise medium density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene and a high density polyethylene grafted with or containing in its main chain unsaturated or saturated carboxylic acids or derivatives. The disclosure also includes composite structures having one or more substrates with the adhesive blend adhered thereto and to methods of making these composites.

Compositions of matter having properties that make them strong adhesives to various substrates and especially to various polar substrates. These compositions comprise blends of graft copolymer of a linear low density polyethylene backbone grafted with at least one grafting monomer comprising one or more of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or the anhydrides of such acids, blended with a blending polyolefin resin. The disclosure also includes composite structures comprising one or more substrates and a blend of the above as the adhesive in contact with the substrate or substrates. The disclosure also includes the process or method that uses these blends for combining one or moe substrates.

Adhesive blends containing anacid or anhydride grafted LLDPE

Compositions of matter having properties that make them strong adhesives to various substrates and especially for extrusion adhesion to various polar substrates. These compositions comprise blends of a graft copolymer of a polyethylene backbone grafted with at least one grafting monomer comprising one or more polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids or the anhydrides of such acids blended with a blending resin that is a mixture of one or more high density polyethylenes and one or more polypropylenes. The disclosure also includes composite structures and their method of making comprising one or more substrates and a blend of the above as the adhesive in contact with and united with the substrate or substrates.
