An electrical switch assembly includes a snap action switch which is actuated from one to another conduction state by a snap action interface mechanism moved by an external actuation element between first and second corresponding positions. The snap action interface mechanism prevents the snap action switch from operating improperly when the external actuation element is of the type which provides a slowly moving, low actuation force. A preferred embodiment has as a part of the interface mechanism, a lever having a ferromagnetic portion which snaps between the first and second positions under the influence of at least one magnet. The switch assembly is particularly suitable for actuation by the bimetal coil strip which commonly forms the temperature responsive element in a thermostat.

In an electronic thermostatic circuit, a resistive bridge network is employed to sense the level of the ambient temperature. The bridge includes three legs having fixed resistors and one leg having a temperature sensitive resistor as well as a serially connected adjustable potentiometer. The adjustable potentiometer is adjustable to provide a selected set point for the operation of the thermostat within a given range of temperatures. The adjustable potentiometer is provided with a shaft to which an adjusting knob having a pointer thereon is secured by means of a slip fastener. Calibration of the assembly is accomplished by turning the knob with its pointer pointed in a preferred direction then holding the knob while adjusting the shaft and the associated potentiometer until the bridge output corresponds with the value indicated by knob pointer.

Thermostatic apparatus

A room thermostat having an electronic circuit board mounted in a cover and attached to a base member. A space is provided between the back side of the circuit board and the front of the thermostat cover whereby air can pass along the back side of the circuit board to 'air wash' for removing heat which is generated by the electrical components mounted on the front side of the circuit board. The front side of the circuit board has a cover over the electrical components for shielding the heat from the components from a temperature responsive element. The temperature responsive element is mounted in a channel provided by the thermostat cover and shield to allow air flow past the temperature responsive means through a channel which includes the space between the thermostat cover and the base.

A clock thermostat apparatus adapted for controlling temperature conditioning apparatus maintains a normal control temperature in a space and during certain selected time periods deviating from the normal temperature control by resetting the normal temperature control to some lower temperature for comfort and energy conservation. The clock thermostat apparatus has a manual temperature selection means and a manual temperature deviation selection means for selecting the normal control temperature and the amount of reset or deviation during the selected time period. A connection means is provided between the temperature selecting means and the temperature deviation selection means to turn the temperature deviation selection means to a lower value when the temperature selection means is moved to some predetermined low temperature. When the normal control temperature selection is reduced by the temperature selection means, the temperature maintained is not reset to a low temperature during a setback time period which might be so low that freezing of water pipes would result in the space wherein the temperature is being controlled.

A thermostat adapted for controlling heating and cooling apparatuses has a temperature control point adjustment means connected to a changeover switch means whereby upon the adjustment of the temperature control point adjustment means in a first range to select a cooling control point, the changeover switch means only connects the thermostat to the cooling apparatus and when the temperature control point adjustment means is in the heating range, the changeover switch means only connects the thermostat to the heating apparatus. The limited range of temperature selection in the first and second range is an energy conservation feature of the thermostat.
