Proppant materials, and methods for making proppant materials, are provided. In one embodiment, the proppant material comprises a substrate material, a polymeric material disposed on the substrate material and a surface wettability modifier disposed on the polymeric material. Methods of making and using the proppant materials are also disclosed.

Proppant materials and methods of tailoring proppant material surface wettability

A composition for treating an aqueous fluid includes an ionic polyacrylamide and a silicon polyether. The composition can be an oil-in-water emulsion or a water-in-oil emulsion. The ionic polyacrylamide can be an anionic polyacrylamide or a cationic polyacrylamide. The composition can be employed, for example, as a friction reducing additive for water based fracturing fluid, or a drilling mud additive.

Friction reducer compositions

The current invention provides a method to form a stable blend of polyacrylamide water-in-oil emulsion and breaker surfactants such as silicon polyether copolymer and linear or branched alcohol ethoxylate surfactants. The composition can be employed, for example, as a friction reducing additive for water based fracturing fluid, or a drilling mud additive.

Stabilization of polyacrylamide emulsion formulations

Methods for remediating a subterranean formation can comprise: introducing a first remedial fluid into a first portion of a subterranean formation, wherein the first remedial fluid comprises a base fluid and a viscosifying agent; and allowing the first remedial fluid to divert at least a portion of a second remedial fluid that comprises an oxidizer to a second portion of the subterranean formation; wherein the viscosifying agent comprises at least one viscosifying agent selected from the group consisting of a gelling agent, an emulsifier, or a gas in combination with a foaming agent; and wherein the gelling agent, if present, comprises at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of xanthan, diutans, wellans, succinoglycan, clarified biopolymers, scleroglycan, combinations thereof, and derivatives thereof.

Viscosified fluids for remediating subterranean damage

Of the many methods and compositions provided herein, one method includes a method comprising introducing a viscosified remedial fluid comprising a base fluid, a viscosifying agent, and an oxidizer into at least a portion of a subterranean formation having damage present therein so as to contact the damage with the viscosified remedial fluid; and allowing the viscosified remedial fluid to at least partially remediate the damage present in the subterranean formation. Another method provided herein includes introducing a viscosified remedial fluid comprising a base fluid, a first viscosifying agent, and an oxidizer into at least a portion of a subterranean formation before a treatment fluid comprising a second viscosifying agent is introduced therein, wherein the oxidizer is available to remediate damage in the subterranean formation.

A method comprises providing a treatment fluid comprising a gelling agent, an aqueous base fluid, a buffer composition comprising a plurality of salts, and a crosslinking agent; and contacting a subterranean formation with the treatment fluid. The aqueous base fluid is preferably seawater and the buffer composition includes one or more salts present in the treatment fluid from about 1 to about 1000 pounds per gallon of treatment fluid.

Shear tolerant aqueous based fracturing fluids and methods

In one embodiment, the present invention provides a viscosified treatment fluid composition comprising a base fluid, a gelling agent, and a breaker composition that comprises an oxidizing breaker and a breaker activator that comprises a metal and a protein. In another embodiment, the present invention provides a viscosified treatment fluid composition comprising a base fluid, a gelling agent, and a breaker composition that comprises an oxidizing breaker and a breaker activator that comprises iron. In an embodiment, the present invention provides a breaker composition comprising an oxidizing breaker and a breaker activator that comprises a metal and a protein.

Compositions for reducing the viscosity of treatment fluids

Methods of treating a subterranean formation comprising providing a viscosified treatment fluid that comprises a base fluid and a gelling agent, providing a breaker composition that comprises an oxidizing breaker and a breaker activator that comprises a metal and a protein, allowing the viscosified treatment fluid to interact with the breaker composition, treating the subterranean formation with the viscosified treatment fluid, and allowing a viscosity of the viscosified treatment fluid to be reduced. Further, methods of reducing the viscosity of a viscosified treatment fluids and methods of activating oxidizing breakers are also provided.

Methods for reducing the viscosity of treatment fluids

The invention provides a fluid for use in a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore, the fluid comprising: (a) water; (b) delayed release acid; (c) a surfactant comprising a tertiary alkyl amine etboxylate generally represented by the following formula: wherein R is an alkyl group or groups, X is about 2 to about 15, and Y is about 2 to about 15; and (e) a gelling agent. The invention also provides a method of fracturing a subterranean formation, comprising the step of forming a foamed fracturing fluid comprising water; a surfactant comprising a tertiary alkyl amine ethoxylate generally represented by the formula above; a gelling agent; and a gas. The method also provides the step of introducing the foamed fracturing fluid into a subterranean formation at a pressure sufficient to create a fracture in the subterranean formation. The method also provides the step of introducing an acid into the subterranean formation.

Methods for effecting controlled break in pH dependent foamed fracturing fluid

A method of fracturing a subterranean formation comprising the steps of: providing a coarse-foamed fracturing fluid comprising a liquid fracturing fluid component, a gas, proppant particulates, and a foaming agent; and placing the coarse-foamed fracturing fluid into a portion of a subterranean formation at a pressure sufficient to create or extend at least one fracture therein.

Coarse-foamed fracturing fluids and associated methods

The present invention provides seawater-based cross-linked fracturing fluids and methods of preparing and using the fluids in fracturing subterranean formations penetrated by well bores and having temperatures above about 200&#xb0; F. The improved cross-linked fracturing fluids are basically comprised of a gelling agent, seawater present in an amount sufficient to hydrate the gelling agent and to form a gelled aqueous fluid, and a delayed cross-linking agent, capable of causing delayed cross-linking of the gelling agent in the gelled aqueous fluid at a pH below the threshold for precipitate formation in seawater.

High temperature seawater-based cross-linked fracturing fluids and methods

The present invention provides seawater-based cross-linked fracturing fluids and methods of preparing and using the fluids in fracturing subterranean formations penetrated by well bores and having temperatures above about 200&deg; F. The improved cross-linked fracturing fluids are basically comprised of a gelling agent, seawater present in an amount sufficient to hydrate the gelling agent and to form a gelled aqueous fluid, and a delayed cross-linking agent, capable of causing delayed cross-linking of the gelling agent in the gelled aqueous fluid at a pH below the threshold for precipitate formation in seawater.

The present invention provides improved methods of treating subterranean formations using borate cross-linking compositions and borate cross-linked well treating fluids. The borate cross-linking compositions are basically comprised of a low viscosity hydrocarbon liquid, an organophillic clay, a slightly water soluble borate, a buffer and a dispersing agent.

The present invention relates to methods of treating subterranean formations and viscosified aqueous well treating compositions which break into thin fluids at temperatures in the range of from about 100.degree. F., to about 300.degree. F. A breaker system is included in the compositions comprised of an alkali metal chlorite or hypochlorite breaker and a breaker activator comprised of copper II ion or an amine, or both.
