A latent pressure-sensitive sheet material, e.g., fastener or closure having a discontinuous surface is made by applying a solvent-based pressure-sensitive adhesive by means of a gravure roll onto a flocked pile surface which is adhered to a substrate by a permanent adhesive. The flocked pile surface serves as a reservoir for the pressure-sensitive adhesive. The pressure-sensitive adhesive is wicked towards the face of the flocked pile surface upon face-to-face mating of two fasteners. The reservoir of pressure-sensitive adhesive and the wicking action enables repeated fastening and unfastening of two mated fasteners without substantial loss of locking power. The fasteners are particularly useful for seaming carpets. Also, the reservoir of pressure-sensitive material in one said fastener can be a curable or crosslinkable pressure-sensitive adhesive material, e.g., epoxy resin, and the pressure-sensitive material in the other said fastener can be a pressure-sensitive adhesive curing or crosslinking substance reactive with said curable pressure-sensitive adhesive material to cure or crosslink same, e.g., a polyamide curing agent for said epoxy.

A latent pressure-sensitive fastener having a discontinuous surface is made by spraying an aqueous pressure-sensitive adhesive onto a flocked pile surface which is adhered to a substrate by a permanent adhesive. The flocked pile surface serves as a reservoir for the pressure-sensitive adhesive. The pressure-sensitive adhesive is wicked towards the face of the flocked pile surface upon face-to-face mating of two fasteners. The reservoir of pressure-sensitive adhesive and the wicking action enables repeated fastening and unfastening of two mated fasteners without loss of locking power. The fasteners are particularly useful for seaming carpets.

Pressure-sensitive flocked fastener and method of making same

A woven fabric comprising glass fibers cushioned from each other by organic fibers in the warp direction, the sinuosity of the glass fibers being less than or equal to the sinuosity of the organic fibers for a given length of woven fabric, and organic fibers in the fill direction has an extremely low degree of stretchability in the warp direction and exhibits high strength under tension in the warp direction. Abrasive belts comprising the woven fabric coated with an adhesive containing abrasive particles exhibit close to zero elongation, have long lives and can be repeatedly used for debarking logs.

A turf-like product suitable for use as a golf tee surface is constructed of artificial turf units which are strung on a plurality of tie rods which are secured at both ends. Each turf unit comprises a number of superimposed layers of a polymeric tape having slits which are transverse to the length of the tape. Holes are programmed in determined frequency along the length of each layer by a heated plunger which passes through the layers of tape. The layers of tape are fused together at the circumference of each hole whereby integrity in the turf unit is obtained. The programmed holes are also used as a mechanical device to construct the pile surface by means of the tie rods. The superimposed layers may be formed by winding the tape on a skein winder.
