Various embodiments concern a sprayer having a blower that outputs a HVLP flow of air into a hose, the hose connecting with a spray gun. A pressure sensor measures pressure of the HVLP air within the hose via a tube that branches from a fitting to which the hose connects. If the sensor indicates that the pressure level has increased above a threshold amount, indicating that the trigger of the spray gun is not being actuated, then power output to the blower is reduced (e.g., stopped). HVLP air is trapped within the hose by two valves when the trigger is not actuated. When the sensor indicates that the pressure level has decreased, corresponding to release of the trapped HVLP air into the gun for spraying by actuation of the trigger, power to the blower is increased (e.g., resumed).

A method for use of a deck stain applicator having a generally flat coating applicator pad having at least one coating delivery channel therethrough for delivery of coating material at a planar application surface of the pad for coating a generally planar surface having at least one gap therein and a plurality of bristles extending out of the planar surface of the pad for applying the coating material to a pair of opposed surfaces to be coated forming the gap and at least one recess in the pad for receiving the plurality of bristles when the pad is moved across the planar surface and the bristles are not aligned with the gap.

A deck stain applicator having a generally flat coating applicator pad having at least one coating delivery channel therethrough for delivery of coating material at a planar application surface of the pad for coating a generally planar surface having gaps therein and a plurality of bristles extending out of the planar surface of the pad for applying the coating material to a pair of opposed surfaces to be coated forming a gap and at least one recess in the pad for receiving the plurality of bristles when the pad is moved across the planar surface and the bristles are not aligned with the gap.

A suction apparatus seal for portable paint spray guns having a suction apparatus received via mating conical surfaces in a salient inlet port, the seal formed of resilient, low-density polyethylene and having a radially inwardly directed lip sized to seal around the suction apparatus and a cylindrical mediate section sized to seal around the salient inlet port and a radially outwardly flared flange to aid in installing the seal on the inlet port of the spray gun. The seal also provides positive engagement of the suction apparatus when it is initially loosely engaged with the paint inlet of the gun.

A twin tube locking assembly for a hand-held spray gun using an extended suction set of a hose and fitting the assembly including a ring having a body with a cylindrical skirt portion and a planar wall retaining a flange of the fitting of the suction set to a pump housing of the gun. The ring is positionable to a first position permitting engagement and disengagement of the ring to the pump housing and a second position retaining the extended suction set to the pump housing by the interaction of a margin of a fan shaped aperture in the planar wall of the ring urging a flange of a fitting of the extended suction set towards the pump housing when a plurality of lips on the housing engage and retain respective lugs on the ring. A detent member on the ring is movable past a stop member on the housing to secure the ring in the engaged position. The planar wall is deformed when the ring is engaged with the housing to secure the fitting against the housing.

Twin tube locking assembly

An improved check valve assembly of the type having a relatively flexible disc member retained between relatively rigid inflow and outflow housing portions. The inflow and outflow housing portions are removably threadably interengaged to permit serviceability of the check valve and the relatively flexible disc member has a generally perpendicular stem extending into the bore of one of the housing portions to avoid misalignment of the disc with the housing. A tongue and groove means circumferentially seals the housing portions together by deforming to a common taper angle between the tongue and groove to provide sealing therebetween.

An air cap for a paint spray gun has air venting passages to relieve back pressure to an air source when the air flow through shaping passages for controlling the shape of the atomized paint spray pattern is blocked and also has a plurality of inwardly directed centering flanges for concentrically aligning the air cap on an associated paint spray nozzle.

An apparatus for providing bleed air to exit an air outlet fitting where an air hose is connected to a turbine housing to cool the turbine and outlet fitting. The bleed air is directed through longitudinal channels outside the air hose and to an air diffuser collar where it is deflected to exit the apparatus radially.

An improved control shaft seal and air valve for a portable paint gun with the seal having a radial clearance with the shaft except at a shaft sealing surface of limited axial length. The shaft seal has a conical surface radially outward of the shaft sealing surface to provide a sealing surface and also to provide transfer of axial forces at that surface to a radial direction to provide a force to urge the shaft sealing surface against the control shaft. A second conical surface of the seal provides for retention of the seal on an air valve spring when the paint gun is disassembled. An improved air valve for portable paint guns is also disclosed having a rigid axial hub and radial support carrying a relatively flexible rim portion adapted to engage a tapered seating surface in the gun.

A nozzle assembly for being received on an end of a spray gun is provided in which there is a nozzle holder member having a through passage which is engageable with an end of the spray gun and which carries a nozzle member rotatingly therein, the nozzle member including a non-circular orifice. An actuating lever engages the nozzle member and has a manual engagement area graspable by a user such that the nozzle orifice can be rotated within the nozzle holder member upon rotation of the actuating lever. The actuating lever provides a visual indicator of the position of the nozzle orifice.

Flat tip for cup guns

A hot air gun or blower of the type usable for blistering paint on a painted surface for easing the removal of paint thereof has a housing with internal brackets supporting and retaining a switch assembly, a circuit board, a motor having an impeller, a motor mount, a shroud surrounding the impeller, and a heating element. The internal brackets supporting these elements are configured so as to provide a number of air passages between the elements and the interior wall of the housing. In addition to drawing air through a rear portion of the gun, air is drawn through an annular opening in the front of the gun between the cover for the heating element and the housing. The air thus passes over the covered heating coil and is preheated before being blown by the impeller directly over the coil for primary heating. At least one wave-like flange is received between spaced interior brackets in the housing for providing a press fit of the components between the two housing halves, thus eliminating the need for mechanical fasteners for mounting the components of the gun.

A heating coil assembly for use in an air blower device has an annular support element, a first end cap, a core having a heating coil spirally wound thereon, a sleeve surrounding the coil and core, and a second end cap. All components have a centrally disposed non-circular bore therein for receiving a heavy gauge non-circular wire retainer, swaged at one end, which extends through the entire assembly and is retained by a press washer at an opposite end. The interior of the sleeve is spaced from the coil forming an axial channel for air flow over the coil. Axial openings in the end caps form air inlets and outlets for the channel. The coil has several leads, at least one of which extends through an axial opening in one of the end caps. The heating coil assembly has a small number of components, which are easily assembled and simultaneously axially and radially positioned and retained relative to each other by the wire retainer.

Heating coil assembly for a heavy duty hot air blower

A tool (10) and method for scarifying a surface is disclosed. Tool (10) comprises a backing plate (14) having a plurality of equally spaced brackets (16) extending downwardly therefrom. Each bracket (16) supports a pair of axles (18) on which are mounted scarifying elements (20, 20a). Each axle pair thereby defines leading and trailing stacks (32, 34) of cutting elements (20, 20a). The leading stack (32) of elements (20, 20a) scarifies parallel paths of soilage while the trailing stack (34) of elements (20, 20a) scarifies soilage between the indicated parallel paths to thereby clean a width of surface.
