A communications connection system includes an adapter module defining at least first and second ports and at least one media reading interface mounted at one of the ports. The first adapter module is configured to receive a fiber optic connector at each port. Some type of connectors may be formed as duplex connector arrangements. Some types of adapters may include ports without media reading interfaces. Some types of media reading interfaces include contact members having three contact sections.

Managed fiber connectivity systems

A communications connection system includes a fiber optic adapter module configured to receive multiple fiber optic connectors. The fiber optic adapter module includes one or more media reading interfaces. Each media reading interface is configured to read physical layer information stored on one of the fiber optic connectors received at the adapter module. Certain types of media reading interfaces extend between an internal passage of the adapter module and an external surface of the adapter module.

A communications connection system includes a fiber optic connector including a storage device having memory configured to store physical layer information. The storage device also includes at least one contact member that is electrically connected to the memory. Certain types of fiber optic connectors have the storage device mounted to a key of the fiber optic connector. Certain types of fiber optic connectors have the storage device mounted in a cavity defined in the fiber optic connector.

A communications connection system includes a fiber optic adapter module configured to receive multiple fiber optic connectors. The fiber optic adapter module includes one or more media reading interfaces. Each media reading interface is configured to determine whether a fiber optic connector is received at one of the ports of the adapter module. Certain types of connectors store physical layer information. Certain types of media reading interfaces are configured to read the physical layer information from the connector if the connector stores such information.

A splice tray holder includes a body with a first portion, a second portion, and a front surface. A retention portion is disposed on an outer periphery of each of the first and second portions and defines a receiving groove having an inner surface that faces toward the front surface of the body. A spring portion is disposed on each of the first and second portions, wherein the spring portion is adapted to provide a biasing force in a direction from the front surface of the body toward the inner surface of the receiving groove.

A protection block and method of use are disclosed. The protection block includes a rectangular housing having a front, a rear, and top, bottom, left, and right sides. The protection block also includes a plurality of sockets arranged in a two-dimensional array in the front of the housing, each of the plurality of sockets associated with two pairs of opposed, normally open contacts. Each of the plurality of sockets is arranged to receive an overvoltage protection plug that separately connects each of the two pairs of contacts. The protection block also includes a plurality of electrical connections in a second discrete region of the block separate from the first discrete region, the plurality of electrical connections electrically connected to the contacts. The protection block also includes a grounding bar associated with one or more of the sockets and positioned for electrical connection to a ground connection of an overvoltage protection plug when inserted into a socket.

A make-before-break edge connector receives an edge portion of a printed circuit board of predetermined thickness. The edge connector includes first and second spring contacts disposed as an opposing pair. Each of the spring contacts includes an entrance end, an intermediate portion and a termination end. At the intermediate portion, the spring contacts include normally closed spring contacts. At the entrance end, the spring contacts include normally open spring contacts.
