An appliance includes an oven cavity; a gas burner disposed within the oven cavity; an electrical heating element disposed within the oven cavity; and a controller in operative communication with the gas burner and the electrical heating element, the controller being configured to receive a signal indicative of a current state of an associated utility, and to selectively activate at least one of the gas burner and the electrical heating element based upon the signal.

Hybrid range and method of use thereof

A gas range includes a gas cooktop including a plurality of gas cooktop burners, and an oven coupled to the gas cooktop. The oven includes an oven cavity comprising a top portion, a bottom portion, a rear portion coupled to the top and bottom portions, a first side portion, and a second side portion, the first and second side portions coupled to the top, bottom, and rear portions respectively, at least one gas oven burner positioned proximate to the bottom portion within the oven cavity; and a first electrical heating element positioned proximate the top portion within the oven cavity.

Gas range and method for using the same

A turbidity sensing mechanism for a dishwasher is connected in the fluid circulation conduit between the pump and the spray mechanism. The mechanism includes a hollow housing enclosing a hollow transparent tube connected in fluid flow relationship with the conduit. A source of electromagnetic radiation and a radiation-to-frequency sensor are positioned inside the housing on opposite sides of the tube.

Dishwasher with turbidity sensing mechanism

An open dishrack for a dishwasher has opposite sides formed of spaced apart elongated coated wires. A vertically adjustable shelf extends between the opposite sides. A pair of support plates include snap fittings which engage the wires to mount the plates on the sides in a facing relationship. Each plate includes an upper and a lower hub aligned with the corresponding hub of the other plate. The shelf includes projecting fingers which are received in a selected pair of hubs to rotatably mount the shelf in either an upper or a lower position. Each plate also includes a rib associated with each of its hubs to support the shelf in a generally horizontal orientation when the shelf is mounted in that hub. Each plate also includes a rib positioned to support the shelf in a generally vertical position when the shelf is mounted in the lower hubs. Each plate includes a cup or trunion positioned above its upper hub and a rod is received in the cups and extends across the dish rack to provide lateral support to items on the shelf and to support the shelf in a generally vertical orientation when the shelf is in its upper position.

A dishwasher rack assembly includes a first elongated rod extending across the rack bottom in one direction and a second elongated rod extending across the rack bottom and crossing the first rod at an angle. A comb includes a base rod overlying the first elongated rod and a finger projecting outward of the base rod. A connector includes a first pair of spaced apart walls forming a first downwardly open recess receiving the rods in a vertical array; a second pair of spaced apart walls forming a second downwardly open recess receiving the second elongated rod; and a third set of spaced apart walls forming a laterally open recess intersecting the first and second recesses and receiving the finger so that the comb can be moved between a position with the finger extending upward and a position with the finger lying parallel to the first and second rods.

Dishwasher rack assembly with fold down combs

An improved data entry and control arrangement for an appliance which includes an electronic display having a plurality of digits. User actuable up and down keys enable the user to adjust the value displayed. The control changes the display by a first amount, for example, one minute for a time display, in response to each momentary actuation of an up or down key. In response to continuous actuation, the control, after initially changing the display by the first amount, then switches the least significant digit of the display to zero and thereafter periodically changes the display by a second amount evenly divisible by ten, such as for example 10 minutes. The preferred update interval between changes is on the order of 0.45 seconds duration. The control also enables the user to change the update interval.

Data entry and control arrangement for an appliance

An appliance with a glass control panel is provided with a membrane touch control panel assembly which simulates the appearance of a glass capacitive touch panel, and which can tolerate relatively harsh temperature environments such as on the backsplash of a range.
