An occupant support includes a seat and a seat cover. The seat is adapted to support an occupant resting thereon. The seat cover is coupled to the seat and arranged to lie between the occupant and the seat.

Health-monitoring seat cover

An occupant support includes a vehicle seat, a sensor coupled to the vehicle seat, and a controller coupled to the sensor. The sensor provides a signal to the controller and the controller processes and responds to the sensed signal. In illustrative embodiments, a controller includes a sensor module, a filter module, and a biometrics module. The sensor module retrieves sensor data indicative of an occupant of a vehicle seat from one or more sensors of a vehicle. The filter module determines a filter function in a frequency range in which useful biological data may be derived. The filter function identifies one or more frequencies of noise in the sensor data and applies the filter function to the sensor data to generate filtered sensor data. The biometrics module determines biometric data associated with the occupant based on the filtered sensor data.

An occupant support adapted for use in a vehicle includes a seat bottom, a seat back, and a sensory system. The seat bottom is coupled to a floor of the vehicle. The seat back extends upwardly away from the seat bottom. The sensor system is configured to monitor for fatigue of an occupant of the occupant support.

An occupant support adapted for use in a vehicle includes a cushion, a cushion cover, and a thermoelectric unit. The cushion is adapted to support an occupant on the occupant support. The cushion cover is arranged around at least a portion the cushion. The thermoelectric unit is configured to selectively heat and cool the occupant of the occupant support with conductive heat transfer through the cushion cover.

Vehicle seat with a thermal device

A seat includes an air discharge port configured to provide a thin stream of conditioned air along a body surface of a seat occupant. The air discharge port is part of an air supply component located in or along the seat bottom or backrest. The air discharge port is positioned to direct conditioned air along an external surface of the air supply component or of another surface of the seat to form an initial thin stream of conditioned air that follows external seat surfaces to reach and flow along the seat occupant. The air supply component can be made adjustable to allow the location and/or direction of the discharged air to be changed to accommodate and maintain the conditioned air in a thin stream.

An occupant support adapted for use in a vehicle includes a cushion, an air-permeable cushion cover, and a ventilation unit. The cushion is adapted to support an occupant on the occupant support. The air-permeable cushion cover is arranged around at least a portion the cushion. The ventilation unit is configured to selectively cool the occupant of the occupant support with convective cooling through the air-permeable cushion cover.

Ventilated vehicle seat

A thermal comfort system for use with a vehicle seat includes an airflow management system and a thermal-electric device (TED) system. The TED system operates to conduct thermal energy between the seat occupant and the vehicle seat to enhance the thermal comfort of the seat occupant. The airflow management system operates to route a stream of conditioned air along the body of the seat occupant via cooperating air intake and air discharge ports to further enhance the comfort of the seat occupant. The conditioned air may also be routed along the TED system to enhance TED performance. The HVAC system of the vehicle can provide the conditioned air and/or a non-ambient pressure source that induces air flow along one or more portions of the thermal comfort system.

Variable-sized occupant support

A vehicle seat assembly includes a composite frame with continuous-fiber reinforced (CFR) material along laterally spaced side members and cross members. The CFR material may be in a continuous piece along all four frame members to provide structural rigidity that is superior to that of separate pieces of CFR material. The pieces of CFR material may define a foundation portion of the seat frame and may be at least partly embedded in a thermoplastic accessory mounting portion, which is also part of the frame. An overmolding process can be used to at least partially encapsulate the CFR material in the accessory mounting portion with thermoplastic material along opposite sides of the CFR material. The overmolding process can also be used to embed recliner support plates in the composite frame. The frame may have an S-shaped cross section, facilitating simplified mold design and providing beam-like rigidity along multiple directions.

A vehicle seat is equipped with a seat tilt mechanism capable of adjusting the amount one seat component is tilted relative to another. The tilt mechanism can couple a seat frame with a seat pan to adjust the relative amount of tilt therebetween. The tilt mechanism includes a housing and a bracket in sliding engagement with a surface of the housing that faces away from the seat pan during use. The bracket may include a bearing surface in sliding engagement with the housing. The bracket can be monolithic with generally U-shaped side walls extending away from the seat pan on opposite sides of the housing. Each side wall may extend partially around the housing with the seat pan providing structure that closes off the open end of the U-shape. The mechanism includes an optional cap on the seat pan side of the housing that may provide a low-friction bearing surface.

Seat bottom tilt drive for vehicle seat

A power seat adjuster includes first and second side rail assemblies, each formed of a plastic outer member and a substantially tubular inner member. One of the outer member and inner member is fixed to the vehicle. The other of the outer member and inner member is movably disposed with respect to the one outer member and inner member. An elevation assembly is coupled between the movable one of the outer member and inner member and a seat support member for elevating the seat support member relative to the first and second side rail assemblies. The elevation assembly includes plastic piano-type drive hinges.
