A record and related method is provided for storing encoded information comprising a storage media, first marks on the storage media having a covert code characteristic, with the first marks conveying a covertly marked code and second marks preferably having an overt code characteristic which convey a second overtly marked code useful in decoding the covertly marked code.

An apparatus for ink-jet printing on a recording medium is provided which includes the steps of jetting aqueous ink drops on paper in the form of an image. The aqueous ink used is a slow-drying (high-surface tension) ink which does not penetrate the paper/paper fibers for a relatively long time. Prior to penetration of the paper/paper fibers, the water in the droplet is quickly evaporated from the ink while still resident on the paper surface. The evaporation process is substantially completed prior to an additional liquid ink being jetted onto the same or adjoining location of the recording medium. The evaporation is rapid enough to prevent the resident ink from substantially migrating/wicking to any adjacent location or into the recording medium. Further the drying energy is transferred to the resident ink spots from the same direction as the printheads ensuring less energy requirement.

Method for achieving high quality aqueous ink-jet printing on plain paper at high print speeds

An ink composition comprised of (1) a mixture comprised of a salt and an oxyalkylene compound wherein the conductive mixture possesses a melting point of from about 60.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C.; (2) an ink vehicle compound with a melting point of from about 80.degree. C. to about 100.degree. C.; (3) a viscosity modifying amide compound; (4) a lightfastness component; (5) a lightfastness antioxidant; and (6) a colorant.

Ink compositions

Disclosed are ionographic imaging apparatuses and processes. One apparatus comprises an imaging means, means for applying to the imaging means a liquid material capable of forming a dielectric peel layer adhering to the imaging means, ionographic writing means for generating a latent image on the peel layer, means for developing the latent image on the peel layer, and means for simultaneously transferring the peel layer bearing the developed image from the imaging means to a substrate and affixing the peel layer bearing the developed image to the substrate. In another embodiment, the apparatus employs a process which comprises applying to an imaging means a liquid material capable of forming a dielectric peel layer adhering to the imaging means, forming a first latent image on the peel layer with an ionographic writing means, developing the first latent image with a first developer, forming a second latent image on the peel layer containing the first developed image with an ionographic writing means, developing the second latent image with a second developer, forming a third latent image on the peel layer containing the first and second developed images with an ionographic writing means, developing the third latent image with a third developer, and simultaneously transferring the portion of the peel layer that bears the developed images to a substrate and affixing the peel layer bearing the developed images to the substrate. A further embodiment is directed to an apparatus and process for sequentially forming and developing primary color images on an imaging means to form a full color image, followed by trasnsferring the fully formed image to a substrate, wherein the developers employed contain a release agent.

Imaging apparatuses and processes

Disclosed is a process for forming secure images which comprises electrostatically charging an imaging member; imagewise exposing the charged member, thereby forming a latent image on the member; developing the latent image with a liquid developer comprising a liquid medium, a charge control additive, and toner particles comprising a colorant and a polymeric material; allowing the developed image to dry on the imaging member; contacting the portion of the imaging member with the dry developed image with a substantially transparent sheet having an adhesive material on the surface thereof in contact with the imaging member, thereby transferring the developed image from the imaging member to the substantially transparent sheet; contacting the adhesive surface of the substantially transparent sheet with the developed image with a paper sheet having a polymeric coating on the surface that is in contact with the substantially transparent sheet; and applying heat and pressure to the substantially transparent sheet and the paper sheet at a temperature and pressure sufficient to affix the image permanently to the paper. The resulting document is a paper sheet covered with the transparent sheet, with the developer material that forms the image being situated between the paper sheet and the transparent sheet. The disclosed process is generally useful for applications such as passport photographs, identification badges, banknote paper, and the like.
