The present disclosure is drawn to a coated print medium, a method of preparing a print medium, and a printing system. The coated print medium can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can comprise, by dry weight percent, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a polymeric binder, 20 wt % to 50 wt % of a cationic latex, 5 wt % to 15 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, and 1 wt % to 20 wt % of an optical brightener; and 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a cationic polyamine.

Coated print medium

The present disclosure is drawn to a coated print medium, a method of preparing a print medium, and a printing system. The coated print medium can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can comprise, by solids or dry weight, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a polymeric binder, 20 wt % to 50 wt % of a cationic latex, 5 wt % to 15 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, and 1 wt % to 20 wt % of a sulfonic acid- or sulfonate-containing stilbene optical brightener.

The present disclosure is drawn to a coated print medium, a method of preparing a print medium, and a printing system. The coated print medium can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can comprise, by dry weight, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a polymeric binder, 20 wt % to 50 wt % of a cationic latex, 5 wt % to 15 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, 1 wt % to 20 wt % of an optical brightener, and 1 wt % to 10 wt % of an anti-quenching agent selected from the group consisting of a sulfonated diphenyloxide, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and combination thereof. In this example, if the polymeric binder is polyvinyl pyrrolidone, the anti-quenching agent is the sulfonated diphenyloxide.

The present disclosure is drawn to ink-jet ink sets, as well as related systems and methods. In one example, an ink set for ink-jet printing can comprise a cyan ink-jet ink including from about 2 wt % to about 5 wt % of a cyan pigment admixed in a first ink vehicle; a magenta ink-jet ink including a magenta colorant comprising from about 2 wt % to about 5 wt % of a magenta pigment and about 0.1 wt % to about 1 wt % of a slightly soluble magenta dye admixed in a second ink vehicle; and a yellow ink-jet ink including from about 2 wt % to about 5 wt % of a yellow pigment admixed in a third ink vehicle.

Ink sets for ink-jet printing

The present disclosure is drawn to an ink-jet ink and a method of ink-jet printing over a prolonged period of time. The ink-jet ink include from 0.1 wt % to 10 wt % pigment by solids, from 0.1 wt % to 15 wt % latex by solids, and from 0.01 wt % to 3 wt % phosphate-containing surfactant, wherein when the ink-jet ink is fired from a thermal ink-jet printhead at 400 million drops per nozzle with said nozzle having an orifice size of about 20 microns, at least 80% drop weight is retained compared to an initial firing prior to firing the 400 million drops per nozzle.

Phosphate-containing surfactants for use with pigment&#x2014;and latex-containing ink-jet inks

Inkjet ink compositions and methods for increasing inkjet ink particle stability are disclosed herein. In an embodiment, a latex polymer-containing inkjet ink composition comprises a secondary alcohol ethoxylate and a fluoro-surfactant at a concentration ratio effective to increase particle stability of the inkjet ink composition when the pigment particles are substantially electrostatically dispersed. In another embodiment, an inkjet ink composition comprises a latex dispersion having a conductivity of no more than about 1.5 mS/cm.

Non-ionic surfactant additives for improved particle stability in high organic inkjet inks

An inkjet ink set includes eleven colored inks and a surface enhancing ink. The eleven colored inks include a magenta ink, a light magenta ink, a yellow ink, a cyan ink, a light cyan ink, a medium gray ink, a light gray ink, a photo black ink, a red ink, a green ink, and a blue ink. The surface enhancing ink is configured to enhance gloss of an image formed with at least one of the eleven colored inks.

Inkjet ink set

The present invention is drawn to versatile ink-jet inks, ink-jet ink sets, and methods of printing images with improved quality when printed on both glossy coated media and on plain paper. In accordance with these embodiments, an ink-jet ink formulated for printing on plain paper and glossy coated media can comprise a liquid vehicle including water, an organic solvent, and an organic amine; and a polymer-encapsulated, acid-sensitive pigment colorant dispersed the liquid vehicle.

Versatile pigmented ink-jet inks with improved image quality

A colorless ink jet ink composition is provided for printers for printing on both porous and hybrid glossy or semi-glossy media. The ink composition comprises a water soluble polymer or dispersed latex. The ink formulation provides substantially air fast, stain resistant, and light fastness to the printed image. Further, the ink formulation evidences improved overall image quality.

Colorless inkjet ink compositions for improved image quality

Methods and apparatuses are provided for use in multi-pass printing, which, through the selective ordering of the application of inks to a print media, promote increased dot gain when desired and decreased dot gain when desired. For example, an adaptable print mode method is provided to select between a dark dot gain print mode and an object definition print mode. The dark dot gain print mode causes at least one dark color ink to be selectively applied to a dry portion of a print media. Thereafter, at least one light color ink is selectively applied to the portion of the print media while it is still wet from the application of the dark color ink(s). Conversely, the object definition print mode is configured to cause at least one light color ink to be selectively applied to a dry portion of the print media, and thereafter at least one dark color ink is selectively applied to the portion of the print media while it is still wet from the application of the light color ink(s).

Multi-pass color print mode methods and apparatuses

The present invention provides ink-jet inks for ink-jet printing, comprising from 0.1% to 5% by weight of at least one dye; from 8% to 20% by weight of a diol selected from the group consisting of 1,2-pentanediol, 1,2-hexanediol, and combinations thereof; from 0.1% to 5% by weight of an aliphatic alcohol or aliphatic alcohol mixture; and from 0.1% to 1.5% by weight of at least one component independently selected from the group consisting of buffers, biocides, and metal chelators, with the proviso that no surfactant is present in the ink-jet ink composition. The ink-jet inks formulated according to the present invention provide good dot size, color-to-color bleed alleviation, improved coalescence, less chia, and improved print head materials compatibility.

Ink-jet inks for improved image quality and reliability

A method of selecting a dye for use with a spreading vehicle can comprise the steps of evaluating a first dye having polar atoms and a second dye having polar atoms to determine a first polarity index and a second polarity index, respectively; and selecting the first dye or the second dye for inclusion in the spreading vehicle based upon a comparison of the first polarity index and the second polarity index. Further, a method of evaluating a dye and formulating an ink-jet ink can comprise the steps of providing a spreading ink-jet ink vehicle; selecting a dye to be evaluated for inclusion in the spreading ink-jet ink vehicle; determining the ratio of polar atoms to carbon atoms within the dye; selecting a desired polarity index ratio range; and admixing the dye with the spreading ink-jet ink vehicle if the ratio is within the desired polarity index ratio range. Additionally, an ink-jet ink composition exhibiting reduced orifice plate puddling can comprise an ink-jet ink vehicle containing 7% to 15% by weight of a 1,2-hexanediol solvent in the absence of added surfactant; and an effective amount of a dye having a normalized polarity index from about 7 to 12.
