A method and apparatus providing improved audio prioritization is provided. A public safety (PS) application programming interface (API) for an open source operating system provides a public safety extension to an audio management platform by providing configurable and updatable audio priority operation based on call type, call mode, and/or call characteristics.

Method and apparatus for audio prioritization

A device and method for lower latency digital audio sample playback is provided. The device comprises: a hardware digital signal processor (DSP); higher and lower latency audio paths to the DSP; a kernel driver; a kernel random-access memory (RAM) including kernel RAM buffers accessible by the kernel driver; and a controller. The controller: prior to digital audio samples being used by an application, pre-loads, using the kernel driver, the samples at the kernel RAM buffers; responsive to a trigger in the application to play a given digital audio sample, determines, using a sample identifier of the given sample, whether the given sample is pre-loaded at the kernel RAM buffers; when the sample is pre-loaded, plays, using the DSP, the given sample via the lower latency path; and when the given digital audio sample is not pre-loaded, plays, using the DSP, the given sample via the higher latency path.

Device and method for lower latency digital audio sample playback

During operation, a push-to-talk (PTT) button will have a touch sensor incorporated on its surface. When the touch sensor detects a touch from a user, the apparatus will exit a low-power state and a display on the apparatus will provide PTT information.

Apparatus and method for displaying information

The power of a signal transmitted from a mobile terminal of a half-duplex TDMA communication system to a base station is controlled by collecting data relating to bit errors in the transmitted signal received on an inbound channel, generating a time-varying statistic of the data. If the time varying statistic indicates that the power should be adjusted, a power control command is embedded in one or more time slots of an outbound channel to the mobile terminal to change the power of the signal. The data may be the bit error rate (BER) reported by a forward error correction decoder and/or returned signal strength information (RSSI). The time varying statistic may be the moving average and standard deviation of the data.
