A cutting tool assembly adapted to be coupled to a cutter head for manufacture of a gear. The cutting tool assembly includes a cutting insert and a holder adapted to couple the cutting insert to the cutting head. The holder includes a pocket defined by a back surface and at least one lip member that provides a force directed against the cutting insert toward the back surface to thereby retain the cutting insert within the pocket during cutting operations.

A composition and apparatus and method for aqueous spray conditioning of scale on metal surfaces. An aqueous solution having a base composition of an alkali metal hydroxide is used. The aqueous solution may contain additives to improve the performance of the salt. In one embodiment, the solution is used to condition the scale on a strip of stainless steel. The strip of steel is at a temperature between the melting point of the alkali metal hydroxide in anhydrous form and a temperature at which the Leidenfrost effect appears. One or more nozzles is provided to spray the solution, and the heated strip is passed by the nozzle or nozzles where the solution is sprayed on the surface or surfaces of the strip that have the scale or oxide. The invention also includes the apparatus and control thereof for the spraying of the solution.

Composition, apparatus, and method of conditioning scale on a metal surface

A method and system for spraying scale conditioning aqueous solutions onto opposite sides of a metal strip for scale conditioning is provided. The system includes a housing which defines a chamber through which the moving strip passes on the strip pass line. A nozzle maintenance station is provided which is disposed off the strip pass line. Sets of spray nozzles are provided and the sets are independently movable between the maintenance station and spraying portion on opposite sides of the strip. Thus, each set can be utilized independently to spray a strip or be worked on in the maintenance station without shutting down the line.

A composition and apparatus and method of using the composition for aqueous spray descaling or conditioning of scale or oxide on metal surfaces, especially stainless steel strip or the like, in one embodiment, although it can be used to descale or condition oxide or scale on other work pieces such as metal bar, or even discrete objects. An aqueous solution having a base composition of an alkali metal hydroxide, such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, or a mixture of alkali metal hydroxides such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide is used. The aqueous solution may contain certain additives to improve the descaling performance of the salt. In one embodiment, the solution is used to condition the scale or surface oxide on a strip of stainless steel. The strip of steel is at a temperature between the melting point of the alkali metal hydroxide in anhydrous form and a temperature at which the Leidenfrost effect appears. One or more nozzles is provided to spray the solution, and the heated strip is passed by the nozzle or nozzles where the solution is sprayed on the surface or surfaces of the strip that have the scale or oxide. The invention also includes the apparatus and control thereof for the spraying of the solution.

A spade drill is provided including a V-shaped drill cutting end and a pair of reaming edges on each side thereof. The reaming edges have a relatively large radius of curvature and generally define a flat portion at the apex of the reaming edges. The junction between the drill cutting end and the reaming edges has a misblended radius.

A milling cutter is provided including a tool holder and a cutting tool insert. The tool holder includes a mounting end portion and a cutting end portion. The cutting end portion includes a slot defined by first and second diagonal surfaces provided in an end of the cutting end portion. The first and second diagonal surfaces form a substantially V-shaped pocket for receiving the cutting tool insert. The cutting tool insert includes a substantially flat body member having a V-shaped seat portion and a cutting portion, the cutting portion includes a first cutting lobe and a second cutting lobe. A hole is provided which passes through the body member. A screw hole passes through the cutting end portion of the milling cutter which intersects the U-shaped pocket. A threaded portion of the screw hole is offset from a clearance portion of the screw hole to positively seat the V-shaped seat portion of the insert in the V-shaped pocket of the tool holder.

A milling cutter is provided including a tool holder and a cutting tool insert. The tool holder includes a mounting end portion and a cutting end portion. The cutting end portion includes a slot defined by first and second diagonal surfaces provided in an end of the cutting end portion. The first and second diagonal surfaces form a substantially V-shaped pocket for receiving the cutting tool insert. The cutting tool insert includes a substantially flat body member having a first side having a cutting surface on one edge thereof and a second identical side having a cutting surface on one edge thereof. A hole is provided through the body member from the first side to the second side. First and second surfaces are provided adjacent and substantially perpendicular to the first and second sides. The first and second surfaces define a V-shaped seat portion for seating the cutting tool insert in the V-shaped pocket of the tool holder.

A system for descaling a strip of metal includes a nozzle assembly mounted within a spray box for spraying descaling product on the strip. The nozzle assembly includes a spray chamber; nozzles mounted directly to the spray chamber; and a heater for heating the chamber, the descaling product in the chamber, and the nozzles by conduction through the chamber. The nozzles are oriented to direct the descaling product in a spray against the upper and lower surfaces of the metal strip for an amount and a time sufficient to descale the metal strip. The nozzle assembly is attached to the spray box and can be easily removed therefrom for inspection.

A method and apparatus for improved settling and handling of sludge in a fused salt bath for treating materials is provided. The apparatus includes a tank divided into a work zone and a salt processing zone, with the salt processing zone having a salt recovery section and a salt heating section. A pumping device is provided which together with adjustable gate means, generate a relatively quiescent flow in the work zone allowing sludge to settle, and a relatively turbulent flow in the salt processing zone and especially the salt heating section, to keep the sludge in suspension.

A powered seed dispenser for uniformly distributing seeds along the ground which includes a handle carrying a powered driven motor and a pivotally mounted seed distributor which is engaged and driven by the powered driven motor, the seed distributor being constructed of a pair of opposed discs, each disc having a pair of inner and outer sidewalls extending transversely therefrom toward its opposing disc, such discs being constructed and arranged to connect together telescopically in such manner as to create an inner metering chamber and an outer dispensing chamber wherein seeds contained inside the metering chamber discharge through openings in the inner sidewalls from the top portion of the volume of seeds, such seeds then falling into the dispensing chamber defined by the outer sidewalls where they are directed and discharged uniformly through dispensing apertures in the outer sidewalls at a point adjacent to the lowermost point of travel of the dispensing apertures.

A heating assembly for a fused bath is disclosed. The assembly includes a heating element within a tube. Also, disposed within the tube is a first thermocouple. A second thermocouple is positioned in the bath outside the tube. Control means are connected to the heating elements and thermocouples so that the heating of the bath is performed responsive to the temperature sensed by the second thermocouple; but, if the first thermocouple detects heat in the tube greater than a given value it will interrupt the heating operation to prevent damage to the heating elements due to over-heating.
