A storage rack that can be mounted to the ceiling to allow easy loading and unloading of multiple items, such as bikes. The stored items ride along a longitudinal track which allows a single item, in a row of many, to be removed without disturbing the remaining items.

Sliding storage rack

A protective housing assembly, and an associated method, for storing optical storage media, such as a compact disc or digital video disc. The housing assembly includes a housing base member and a housing cover member that are positionable in a confronting arrangement that defines an enclosure. When storage media is positioned at the area forming the enclosure, and the housing base and cover members are positioned in the confronting arrangement, an airtight enclosure is formed. Air is evacuated out of the enclosure by an evacuator to form vacuum conditions at the enclosure. Environmental elements that might degrade or damage the storage media are maintained thereby out of contact with the storage media.

Protective housing assembly, and associated method, for optical storage media

A weather radio adapted to automatically select a preferred channel of operation. A receiver is coupled to a signal quality circuit that outputs signal quality parameters. A controller is coupled to control the frequency of reception of the receiver and is coupled to receive the signal quality parameters. A memory is used to store several signal quality values, and is coupled to the controller. When the controller receives a stimulus, it controls the receiver to sequentially receive all the weather radio frequencies of reception and store a signal quality value for each. The controller subsequently controls the receiver to receive one of the frequencies of operation based upon a comparison of the stored values to select a preferred one of them. The radio is therefore programmed to receive the preferred channel and monitor NOAA Weather Radio transmissions for the local FIPS codes and other weather alert messages.

Weather radio with channel acquisition system

A wind gauge apparatus and method. An illustrative embodiment includes a microphone positioned to engage wind pressure from a first relative direction and a controller coupled to receive an audio signal from the microphone. The controller compares the audio signal with plural threshold values, representative of wind pressure levels, and determines a first wind pressure level incident upon the microphone. Filtering and gain controls are used to condition the audio signal output from the microphone. Plural microphones are employed to allow that detection of wind direction and magnitude about a compass of directions. Digital signal processing is employed to process data. In an illustrative embodiment, the wind direction and magnitude data are used to recommend a golf club size adjustment and a golf swing direction adjustment to the user, who has taken a measurement of the wind with respect to a reference golf swing direction. In another embodiment, a temperature sensor is added and the controller calculates a wind chill factor.

Wind gauge

A method and apparatus for simulating telephony services and providing information about telephony services and products without the use of a public carrier telephone system. The system includes at least one Telephone Interface (TI), connected between a telephone and the simulation system. The emulator receives, decodes and validates a user initiated command signal, converts it into a control signal and activates a playback sequence which emulates telephone services. A plurality of different telephone functions and services can be simulated without connection to external telephone lines or wireless service.

Method and apparatus for emulating telephone services

A method and apparatus for transferring identification codes using magnetic coupling. A matching code is established by a microprocessor and is stored in the memories of a communications base unit and a mobile unit. When the mobile unit is placed in the base unit the central processing unit sends pulsed current to a coil in the base unit inducing a magnetic field. A Hall effect transistor in the mobile unit detects the induced changes in the magnetic field and transmits the pulse pattern to the base unit (handset) memory where it is entered as a new identification code.

Cordless phone data transfer

In a folding communication apparatus with a housing rotatably connected by a hinge to a movable form, wherein movement of the hinge alters the speaker volume. A folding portable radio set includes a switch for reducing the speaker volume when the communication apparatus is in the open position.
