A power tool construction wherein an integrated pressure fluid motor is provided with a unitary motor cylinder and back head and an external cooperative porting surface for cooperation with a valve porting surface. A further feature of the construction provides a cooperating front head plate with concentric alignment lands for attachment of the motor and a power output device such as a gear reducer.

Tool construction

A fluid connection and control device for fluid machines permits fluid inlet or outlet connections without the necessity for threaded connection to the machine. This is accomplished by an elongate radially symmetrical body having first and second ends and a central axial fluid passage connecting the ends. The body is appropriately sized for the fluid channel of the fluid machine and has a provision at the first end for attachment of a flexible hose. The second end has a provision for a fluid tight seal between the body and the fluid channel as well as a mechanism by which the body is retained within the fluid channel of the fluid machine while permitting rotation thereof. Options are provided for incorporation of a valve mechanism for controlling the fluid flow. This provides the advantages of rapid assembly and avoidance of undue stresses to the fluid machine housing.

A trigger and valve assembly for a power tool and the like wherein the trigger stem is provided with an aperture for receiving and capturing a valve stem upon assembly of the tool components. The aperture further prevents removal of the trigger assembly upon assembly.

A fluid connection and control device for fluid machines permtis fluid inlet or outlet connections without the necessity for threaded adapters. This is accomplished by a radially symmetrical body having first and second ends and a central axial fluid passage connecting the ends. The body is appropriately sized for the fluid channel of the fluid machine and has a provision at the first end for attachment of a flexible hose. The second end has a provision for a fluid tight seal between the body and the fluid channel as well as a mechanism by which the body is captured within the fluid channel of the fluid machine. Options are provided for incorporation of a valve mechanism for controlling the fluid flow. The valve mechanism may be incorporated as an integral part of the body or as a separate modular unit which is retained in the fluid channel by the connector body. This provides the advantages of rapid assembly and avoidance of undue stresses to the fluid machine housing, and also provides flexibility of the hose directly adjacent the housing which contributes to improved maneuverability.

A fluid powered vane motor for operation with a minimum of externally supplied lubrication has a motor chamber made up of a cylinder with an eccentric cylindrical bore and end plates abutting the ends of the cylinder. A rotor with a plurality of axially oriented radial slots on its circumferential surface is supported on bearing means within the chamber. Radially slidable vanes are disposed in the radial slots of the rotor so that they form a moving seal between the rotor surface and the cylinder wall. Pressurized fluid introduced to the motor chamber acts upon the vanes of the rotor and imparts rotary motion thereto. Operation with a limited amount of externally supplied lubrication is accomplished by making end plates of inherently lubricious material such as fiber-reinforced polymeric material, and by coating the innner bore of the cylinder with a soft coating having lubricious properties in contact with the selected vane material.

A fluid-actuated shut-off valve for a fluid-powered tool such as a wrench including a spool valve urged to open position by a spring and having respective valve-operating surfaces subject to both regulated inlet and exhaust pressures in the tool. The valve operating surfaces and spring are arranged so the valve is thrown to its closed position by a combination of a constant regulated control pressure and the drop in exhaust pressure as the tool motor slows down and stalls under load. The valve operating mechanism also includes an element for preventing high pressure fluid from venting to the workplace during motor stall.

Automatic shut-off valve for power tools

The invention relates to a muffler for portable pneumatic tools wherein the exhaust of the pneumatic motor is passed into an expansion chamber having a perforated outlet baffle biased to the direction of the flow in the chamber. The flow from the expansion chamber enters a muffler chamber having an outlet baffle also biased to the direction of fluid flow. Both the first and second baffle are formed in an end cap for the handle of the pneumatic tool and form a removable extension thereof.

This invention relates to power tools and more particularly to an air-operated power tool commonly used for automotive or other assembly operations for installing threaded fasteners. The device of this invention shuts off the power tool as it approaches the stall condition. Motor rotation is sensed by transferring a small mass of air in proportion to the speed of the motor but independent of the air expanded to operate the motor. The air transferred is utilized to create a signal which through an air-operated valve shuts the power tool off when the speed is reduced below a predetermined amount as when the torquing cycle is nearing completion.
