A biased securement system for end winding conductors of a turbine generator stator has a support ring and a biased wedge system that compresses the end windings in both a radial and circumferential direction. The biased wedge system includes a pair of spacer blocks with confronting angular surfaces and a triangular shaped wedge that is biased towards the support ring by use of a belleville spring washer.

An electrical generator connection, to connect coil ends, and a method of making the same. A header cap having a spherically shaped portion is brazed to each coil end to be connected. A pair of connector bars, each having a pair of similarly sized spherical seats, receives the spherical portion of each coil end header cap. Electrical and mechanical connection is provided by bolting the two connector bars together.

An apparatus and method for feeding a throughbolt through a bore in a dynamoelectric machine while initially feeding the same towards the end of the bore along a line forming an acute angle with the axis of the bore. The apparatus has a pair of opposed rotatable wheels and a support plate therefore, at least one guide roller spaced from one end of the support plate, and at least one guide roller spaced from the other end of the support plate. A carriage aligns the wheels and the rollers in two spaced parallel planes through which a through-bolt will pass and a reciprocable member on the carriage effects relative movement between the pair of spaced rotatable wheels and the first and second guide rollers, in a direction transverse the parallel planes such that the through-bolt is deflected from the acute angle at which it is being fed and coaxially aligned with the axis of the bore and adapted to be fed therethrough.

Method for feeding a through-bolt through a bore in a stator core

A coil support arrangement for use in connection with a dynamoelectric machine equipped with a stator having top and bottom winding coil end portions arranged in phase groups and extending outwardly from the stator at each end thereof. The support arrangement consists of a support ring encircling the bottom winding coil end portions, blocking means providing lateral support for the coil end portions to restrain vibrational movement of the latter during machine operation and a series of bands for holding the coil end portions of the phase group, the related blocking means and the support ring together, with the blocking means disposed in axial alignment with the ring to thereby present a single blocked and banded, elongated phase group structure which extends circumferentially around the inside of the ring. The blocking means consists of a plurality of individual block elements which extend the full radial depth of the phase group structure to provide deep beam strength characteristics to the structure. The block elements are generally trapezoidal in shape to facilitate wedging of the same between adjacent coil end portions during assembly. A wedging mechanism is provided between adjacent phase group structures for applying circumferentially directed tightening forces to the overall arrangement.

Deep beam support arrangement for dynamoelectric machine stator coil end

A structure for consolidating large turbine generator end turns while providing for thermal compensation includes a decoupled brace that is located radially outside the end turns and has a bottom piece secured to a bracket secured to the core as well as a top piece adjacent the coil and an intermediate decoupler between the two that includes elastomeric material for cushioning as well as a slip layer for allowing free axial movement between the top and bottom pieces of the brace. Additionally, keyed strain blocks may be utilized between top and bottom coils of the assembly for greater consolidation.

A leakage measuring apparatus and method is herein provided for a gas-cooled, liquid-cooled dynamoelectric machine's cooling system. The apparatus comprises: a liquid coolant reservoir; an integrating vessel; a flow restriction means such as an orifice, orifice covered by a porous membrane, or a needle valve; a pressure relief valve which is hydraulically connected between the liquid coolant reservoir and the integrating vessel; and means for gaging the pressure within the integrating vessel, said pressure indicative of the amount of leakage within the cooling system. The effect obtained by the gaging of the pressure in the integrating vessel is: (1) the integration of the pressure surges resulting from the intermittent activation of the pressure relief valve; and (2) the amplification, for gaging purposes, of the pressure changes in the reservoir, these changes caused by the existence of leakage.

Axial flow blowers for cooling the rotatable field winding on synchronous dynamoelectric machines. An axial flow blower is provided on each axial end of the dynamoelectric machine. Each blower includes an inboard and an outboard section. Each section is capable of forcing a gas coolant through interpolar spaces which separate the poles on synchronous motors and generators. A flow guide is arranged in each interpolar space to direct the gas coolant against the adjacent field winding. One inboard section causes axial flow of the gas coolant through the interpolar spaces when the shaft of the dynamoelectric machine is rotated in a first direction and the other inboard section causes axial flow of the gas coolant in the opposite direction when the shaft is rotated in the second direction. The inboard sections are so designed that when they are rotating in their non-blowing direction of rotation, they extract minimum total pressure from the axially-propelled gas coolant forced towards them by the other inboard section and both outboard sections. The outboard sections provide axial flow of gas coolant through the interpolar spaces during both rotational directions of the shaft. Changing rotational direction in applications such as pump storage hydrogenerators requires such bi-directional axial flow blowers.
