A bearing steel composition contains 0.1 to 0.2 wt % C, 3.25 to 4.25 wt % Cr, 9.5 to 11.5 wt % Mo, 5.75 to 6.75 wt % W, 1.5 to 2.5 wt % V, and 2.5 to 3.5 wt % Ni. A bearing component, such as a rolling element, an inner race or outer race, is formed from the bearing steel composition, for example, by a powder metallurgical technique and then is subjected to a case hardening treatment. The bearing component may have a microstructure composed of martensite, retained austenite and at least one of carbides and/or carbonitrides. The carbon level at the surface of the bearing component may be 0.5 to 1.1 wt %.

A bearing component formed from a steel composition and providing carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium, cobalt, vanadium, and at least one of the following elements sulphur, phosphorous, molybdenum, aluminum, arsenic, tin, antimony, and the balance iron, together with impurities.

Bearing component

Rolling bearing comprising an inner ring, rolling elements and an outer ring. According to one aspect of the invention the inner ring is produced by M62 steel powder metallurgical technique whilst the outer ring is a conventional stool ring. According to another aspect a rolling bearing having at least one component produced by powder metallurgy technique is in a actively lubricated condition.

Method for the production of a part of a rolling bearing, such as a ring for a ball bearing. The starting material used is a grade of steel containing 0.90 1.00% C; at most 0.15% Si; 0.25-0.45% Mn; at most 0.0015% P; at most 0.010% S; 1.30-1.50% Cr; at most 0.15% Ni; 0.20-0.23% Mo; at most 0.20-0.23% Cu; at most 20 ppm Ti; at most 8 ppm O. Before subjecting this grade of steel to a quenching and tempering treatment, the shaped item is subjected to plastic deformation in the hot or cold state. The mechanical properties and in particular the anticipated life under severe stress improve as a result.

Method for the production of a part of a rolling bearing

Rolling structure steel, comprising: 0.90-100% by wt. C; 0.95-1.05% by wt Si; 0.25-0.45% by wt Mn; 0.015% by wt. S max.; 0.025% by wt. P max.; 1.30-1.50% by wt. Cr, and 0.17-0.20% by wt. Mo. Preferably this steel is produced by austenising at 860&plus;20&deg; C., quenched in oil and tempered at 240&plus;20&deg; C. In this way steel is obtained having a high rolling contact fatigue strength and dimensional stability at elevated temperature operating conditions.

A method for producing a rolling bearing component, in which, before ustenizing, the steel is subjected to cold deformation and quenching is such that the bainitic structure is obtained; and a rolling bearing component produced by the method, such as a rolling bearing ring from 1C to 1,5Cr type series steel, in which at least the surface of the rolling bearing component has a bainitic structure and the service life of the bainitic structure is considerably increased over a component not subjected to cold rolling.

A micro-alloyed steel for rolling bearings and especially for HBU/THU forgings with improved yield strength in &ldquo;as forged condition. The steel has the following composition 0.5-0.7% C, 0-0.6% Si, 0.4-1.2% Mn, 0-0.035% S, 0.05-2.0% V, 80-160 ppm N, the remainder iron and ordinary impurities.
