A replacement compressor outlet housing includes a compressor outlet housing, having a volute and a radially inwardly extending finger extending from a radially inner end of the volute. The radially inwardly extending finger is welded to an insert. The insert has a bearing support defining a bore. The insert has a web connecting a ledge to the bearing support. The radially inwardly extending finger welded to the ledge.

A compressor includes a rotor configured to compress air and driven by a shaft. A motor is drives the shaft. A thrust bearing facilitates rotation of the shaft. The thrust bearing includes a thrust shaft and a thrust plate. The thrust shaft includes first and second orifices. A bearing cooling air inlet is in fluid communication with the first and second orifices.

A compressor includes a rotor driven by a shaft and configured to compress air and a motor for driving the shaft. At least one bearing facilitates rotation of the shaft. The first journal bearing is upstream from the motor and the second journal bearing is downstream from the motor. A method of repairing a compressor outlet housing includes the steps of obtaining a damaged compressor outlet housing having a radially outer volute, a radially inwardly extending finger extending to an axially extending ledge, a radially inwardly extending web extending radially inwardly from the ledge, and a radially inner bearing support defining a bore. The method identifies a damaged section within at least one of the bearing support, the web, and the ledge, and removes at least the bearing support and the web to leave a remaining part. The method then inserts an insert having at least a replacement bearing support and a replacement web into the remaining part after the removal step. The method then welds the insert to the remaining part to provide a repaired compressor housing. A method of replacing a compressor outlet housing and a replacement compressor outlet housing are also disclosed.

A compressor according to an exemplary embodiment of this disclosure, among other possible things includes, a rotor driven by a shaft and configured to compress air. A motor is drives the shaft. First and second journal bearings facilitate rotation of the shaft. The first journal bearing is located upstream from the motor, and the second journal bearing is located downstream from the motor. A thrust bearing also facilitates rotation of the shaft. The thrust bearing is downstream from the second journal bearing. A tie rod connects the shaft to a motor rotor shaft adjacent the first journal bearing. The tie rod includes an opening which is configured to communicate cooling air from the motor to the rotor. A method for cooling a compressor is also disclosed.

A compressor includes a rotor driven by a shaft and configured to compress air, and a motor for driving the shaft. At least one bearing is utilized for facilitating rotation of the shaft. A motor cooling loop is configured to provide motor cooling air to the motor. A bearing cooling loop is configured to provide bearing cooling air to the at least one bearing. A bearing support is configured to support the least one bearing. The rotor includes an opening which is configured to communicate bearing cooling air into a cavity between the rotor and the bearing support. A method for cooling a compressor is also disclosed.

A ram air fan assembly includes an outer housing. An inner housing is located within the outer housing. A motor is attached to the inner housing. An inlet tube extends between the outer housing and the motor. The inlet tube includes a straight first portion and a curved second portion. At least one of the two portions includes a perforated portion.

Inlet tube design

A method and apparatus for operating an air cycle machine is disclosed. The apparatus includes a detector for measuring a rotational speed of a component of the air cycle machine. A processor estimates a rate of change of rotational speed of the component from the measured rotational speed and shuts down the air cycle machine when the estimated rate of change of the rotational speed of the component is greater than a selected rate threshold.

A lockout tool for an air cycle machine includes a lockout tool body threaded section, a lockout tool body end section, and a lockout tool body conical tip. The lockout tool body threaded section is operable to engage a threaded port of the air cycle machine that is proximate to a shaft of the air cycle machine. The lockout tool body end section includes a rotation interface operable to receive a rotational force to control engagement of the lockout tool body threaded section with the threaded port. The lockout tool body conical tip is operable to engage the shaft of the air cycle machine to prevent rotation of the shaft.

A system has an electric motor having a stator and a rotor. The rotor rotates with a shaft and the shaft drives a fluid rotor. A control senses a fault condition on the electric motor. The control actuates a speed reduction feature when a fault is detected to bring rotation of the motor rotor and the fluid rotor to a stop more rapidly than if the speed reduction feature had not been actuated.

A ram air fan has a fan impeller and a motor. The impeller and motor are mounted within a housing. An inlet header delivers air to an inlet for the fan. An air supply system delivers air from an internal cavity of the inlet header to the motor and air bearings. The air supply system includes a conduit extending through the housing. A connection from the conduit extends from a J-shaped tube mounted within the inlet header. The J-shaped tube extends to a remote end, with a perforated member positioned on the remote end.

A vane for a variable diffuser includes a body with an inlet end and an outlet end, a leading surface extending from the inlet end to the outlet end, a trailing surface opposite the leading surface and extending from the inlet end to the outlet end, a first surface extending from the inlet end to the outlet end, and a second surface opposite the first surface and extending from the inlet end to the outlet end. The vane further includes a first cavity on the first surface of the vane adjacent the inlet end, a second cavity on the first surface of the vane adjacent the outlet end, a third cavity on the second surface of the vane adjacent the inlet end, and a fourth cavity on the second surface of the vane adjacent the outlet end.
