A power take off unit includes an input gear, an output gear, and an intermediary gear that cooperate to transfer power from a rotational power source to an operating target. The power take off unit has a control module that biases the intermediary gear relative to the input gear and the output gear to reduce gear rattle vibrations associated with intermeshed tooth looseness.

A combined power take-off and synchronizer assembly selectively connects a source of rotational energy to a driven accessory includes a power take-off portion that includes an input mechanism that is adapted to be rotatably driven by a source of rotational energy and an output mechanism that is rotatably driven by the input mechanism. The combined power take-off and synchronizer assembly also includes a synchronized clutch portion that selective connects the output mechanism of the power take-off portion to an output shaft that is adapted to be connected to a rotatably driven device.

A power take off device includes input and output shafts and an integral planetary gear set. The power take off device may be a single speed or a multi-speed device. The input shaft and the output shaft are mechanically connected through the planetary gear set. The output shaft may be driven in a forward direction and/or may be driven in a reverse direction. For example, the output shaft may be driven with a speed reduction, a speed increase, or at a 1:1 ratio with the input shaft.

A power take off device that includes a clutch that is engaged by a pressure operated actuator. The pressure operated actuator may be a two directional fluid pressure operated actuator that selectably engages the clutch. A single input signal may operate the two directional fluid pressure operated actuator in both directions. In one mode of operation of the power take off device, a substantial speed reduction and torque increase is provided between the input shaft and the output shaft to start rotating the blower and to overcome the inertial start up resistance of the blower. The power take off device may change to a second mode of operation without stopping to provide a direct one to one speed and torque ration between the input shaft and the output shaft.

A second gear unit housingdefines a substantially smaller second sumphaving a second set of gears. An input shaftextends longitudinally into the first sump, and an output shaftextends longitudinally from the second sump. The longitudinal axes of the input and output shafts are substantially coaxial. A first hydraulic pump motor unit drive shaftextends into the first sumpand is drivingly connected with the first set of gears, and a second hydraulic pump motor unit drive shaftextends through the first sumpand into the second sumpand is drivingly connected with the second set of gears.

A power take-off includes an input mechanism that is disposed within an input mechanism housing and is adapted to be connected to a source of rotational energy. A clutch assembly is disposed within a driveshaft housing and is adapted to be connected to a rotatably driven accessory. A driveshaft connects the input mechanism to the clutch assembly. The driveshaft may be disposed within the driveshaft housing, which also forms a housing for the clutch assembly.

A system and method of dithering speed and/or torque for shifting a transmission of a vehicle having an engine, a reversible, variable displacement hydraulic motor/pump which can be driven by the engine, a hydraulic accumulator supplied by said motor/pump, and at least one reversible hydraulic driving motor for propelling the vehicle supplied with fluid by the hydraulic accumulator and/or by said motor/pump operating as a pump. A transmission unit connects the engine with the variable displacement hydraulic motor/pump during a first mode of operation (city mode) and connects the engine to a vehicle drive wheel during a second mode of operation. The system utilizes stored hydraulic energy to dither the output of the driving motor in order to achieve quick and smooth shifts between city and highway mode, or between various ranges within the city mode.

A hydraulic power output unit can be used in a hydraulic hybrid drive system for propelling a vehicle. The hydraulic power output unit includes a housing having an input shaft that extends within the housing and is adapted to be rotatably driven by a source of rotational power. A hydraulic pump is rotatably driven by the input driveshaft to pump hydraulic fluid. A vibration damper is provided within the housing for dampening vibrations in the input shaft.

A power transfer system for a vehicle that comprises a an internal combustion engine, one or more drive wheels, and power transfer apparatus transfers power from the prime mover to the wheels for propelling the vehicle. The system further comprises an auxiliary hydraulic pump that has a drive shaft that coupled to a power take-off unit driven by engine, and to an auxiliary hydraulic motor powered by hydraulic fluid supplied from a hydraulic energy storage device such as an accumulator. As a result, the auxiliary hydraulic pump can be powered by hydraulic fluid from the accumulator when the prime mover is not operating, or by the prime mover when operating. A tandem arrangement of one way clutches can be employed to avoid the need to disconnect the auxiliary hydraulic pump from the prime mover during operation of the auxiliary hydraulic motor, and vice versa.
