A safety interlock system for hand operated vehicle accelerator control systems is disclosed which permits a hand operated accelerator control system to be immobilized so that it cannot be activated unintentionally or accidentally by an individual operator who is not familiar with a vehicle so equipped. The safety interlock system may be selectively activated by the vehicle operator manually directly by mechanical means or remotely by means of a switch-controlled hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical activator. An indicator system is provided which indicates the status of the safety interlock system to the vehicle operator.

Safety interlock system for hand operated accelerator control devices

A vehicle hand control apparatus for controlling the throttle and brake pedals of a motor vehicle. A support shaft pivotally supports a transverse control arm tube which holds a control shaft for rotation coaxially within the control arm tube. A handle extends from one end of the control arm tube for actuating the brake pedal and also for separate limited pivotal movement about a handle pivot axis orthogonal to the rotational axis of the control arm tube for actuating the accelerator pedal. Pivotal movement of the handle about the handle pivot axis causes separate interacting transfer rods dependently extending from the handle and the control shaft, respectively, to effect rotation of the control shaft and accelerator pedal movement.

Vehicle hand control apparatus

A safety interlock system for left foot operated vehicle accelerator control systems is disclosed which permits a left foot operated accelerator control system to be immobilized so that it cannot be activated unintentionally or accidentally by an individual operator who is not familiar with a vehicle so equipped. The safety interlock system may be selectively activated by the vehicle operator manually directly by mechanical means or remotely by means of a switch-controlled hydraulic, pneumatic or electrical activator. An indicator system is provided which indicates the status of the safety interlock system to the vehicle operator.

Safety interlock system for left foot operated accelerator control devices

A docking system for securing a wheelchair into a vehicle in which a docking shoe is firmly attached to either the frame of the wheelchair or to the floor of the vehicle, or both. A firm anchor device, which may be a second docking shoe, is firmly attached to the other of the floor and wheelchair. A docking arm is mounted vertically in the anchor device and the wheelchair is positioned in the vehicle so that the docking shoe and the anchor device are vertically aligned one above the other so that the docking arm can be slidably and releasably locked into the docking shoe. Preferably, the docking shoe includes an electrically operated, spring loaded, release mechanism, and may also include a slide mechanism to allow limited forward and rearward movement of the wheelchair while under restraint.
