Methods and cement compositions are provided that utilize treated polyolefin fibers for lost circulation and/or mechanical property enhancement. Disclosed is a method comprising: providing a cement composition comprising: a hydraulic cement; water; and treated polyolefin fibers that are rod-shaped and have a length in a range from about 0.0625 inches to about 0.25 inches, wherein the treated polyolefin fibers have been treated with a surfactant to make the treated polyolefin fibers hydrophilic; placing the cement composition in a selected location; and allowing the cement composition to set.

Method to control the physical interface between two or more fluids

Methods of servicing a wellbore in contact with a subterranean formation include passing an ester-based fluid into the wellbore and reducing a temperature of the ester-based fluid by an amount effective to cause the ester-based fluid to set, e.g., by from about 10&#xb0; F. to about 20&#xb0; F. The ester-based fluid includes a water in ester-based oil emulsion, a pH controlling additive, e.g., hydrated lime, in the water-phase, and an emulsifier to stabilize the pH controlling additive. Cooling the ester-based fluid causes the emulsion to destabilize, resulting in the release of the pH controlling additive. This release raises pH of the ester-based fluid by an effective amount to cause it to set. Wellbore servicing fluids comprising the foregoing ester-based fluid may be employed as environmentally friendly sealants or spotting fluids in wellbores.

The present invention relates to methods of chemically generating gas in aqueous fluids utilized in the drilling and completion of wells such as drilling fluids, spacer fluids, and aqueous acid solutions. In one embodiment, the invention provides a method of preventing the formation of fractures in a subterranean formation during a drilling operation. Well completion spacer fluids containing fibers and methods of using the spacer fluids are provided. A method of the invention for displacing a first fluid from a well bore with an incompatible second fluid comprises the following steps. A spacer fluid is placed between the first and second fluids to separate the first and second fluids and to remove the first fluid from the walls of the well bore. Thereafter, the first fluid and the spacer fluid are displaced from the well bore with the second fluid. The spacer fluid comprises water, a weighting material, a dispersing agent, a suspending agent and friction reducer and fibers. The spacer fluid containing the components mentioned above is preferably also foamed.

A method of cementing a casing in a wellbore with a tool having a plurality of holes therethrough connected at a lower end of the casing. The total cross-sectional area of the holes is preferably greater than the cross-sectional area of the inside of the casing. Improved methods of generating gas in and foaming aqueous well fluids introduced into a subterranean zone are provided. A method of the invention includes the steps of combining with an alkaline aqueous well fluid one or more gas generating chemicals and a mixture of foaming and foaming stabilizing surfactants so that the gas generating chemical or chemicals react with the alkaline aqueous well fluid and gas and foam are formed in the well fluid while it is being pumped, and then pumping the well fluid into the subterranean zone.

Methods and oil-based settable drilling fluid compositions for drilling and cementing wells

Methods and apparatus for forming metal or metal alloy casings in well bores are provided. A method of the invention comprises the steps of providing and pumping a fluid suspension of a particulate metal or metal alloy into a pipe string within a well bore having a casing forming tool connected thereto. The casing forming tool includes an internal passageway sealingly communicated with the pipe string and with a plurality of radial openings in the tool positioned around the periphery thereof. An internal heater for heating the fluid suspension and melting the particulate metal or metal alloy and an internal rotating impeller for imparting centrifugal force to the fluid suspension are provided in the casing forming tool. Centrifugal force is imparted to the fluid suspension by the rotating impeller whereby the melted particulate metal or metal alloy forms a casing which solidifies on the walls of the well bore.

Methods and apparatus for forming metal casings in well bores

Oil-based settable spotting fluid compositions and methods of using the compositions are provided. The oil-based settable spotting fluid compositions are basically comprised of oil, an emulsifying surfactant for emulsifying the oil with water whereby an oil-external emulsion is formed, a de-emulsifying surfactant which in time de-emulsifies said oil-external emulsion when the emulsion is contacted with external water, a hydraulic settable component selected from the group consisting of ASTM Class C or the equivalent fly ash and ASTM Class F or the equivalent fly ash together with a source of calcium and water selected from the group consisting of fresh water and salt water.

The present invention provides improved compositions and methods of using the compositions for sealing subterranean zones. One composition of the invention is comprised of water, a silane coupling agent, an organophilic clay, an epoxy resin and a hardening agent for said epoxy resin.
