A computerized method for collecting error data and providing error reports relating to occurrences of errors of software applications installed on one or more computing devices is disclosed. Data for describing software applications and identifying software application errors is collected from the computing devices and stored in a catalog. Data associated with error occurrences is obtained and combined with related data being stored in the catalog. A report is generated based on the error occurrences and related catalog data.

Objective assessment of application crashes from a customer environment

Tracking data operations associated with unauthenticated computing devices to enable subsequent identification and remediation thereof. In embodiments in which one computing device has to trust another computing device without authenticating the other computing device, a machine identifier and a credential group value are associated with data operations in communications from the unauthenticated computing device. The data operations may be subsequently identified based on the machine identifier and credential group value. Remedial action may be taken on the identified data operations to restore data integrity.

Tracking and identifying operations from un-trusted clients

A client in a plurality of clients with a same network address or similar common identifier is designated a Peer Distribution Point (PDP) agent for distributing a software application divided into several packages to the plurality of clients. The plurality of clients are part of a client-server hierarchical system comprising a Central SMS site server and several Distributing servers. The Central SMS site server generates policies for the packages that are pushed to a Distribution server assigned to the plurality of clients from where the PDP agent pulls the policies. The Central SMS site server generates the packages that are pushed to the Distributing server after the PDP agent pulls the policies. The packages are pulled by the PDP agent from the Distributing server. The other clients pull the packages from the PDP agent as and when needed.

Peer distribution point feature for system management server

A method for updating a catalog of hardware device and software object identifiers by identifying unknown identifiers and categorizing each of the unknown identifiers. The method further provides the categorized identifiers to a community of users for review and receives comments from the community of users on the provided categorization. The method further determines if the categorized identifiers should be recategorized based upon the received comments. Another method performs a search for an entity associated with an unknown identifier, determines a likely entity associated with the unknown identifier, and verifies the correctness of such determined likely entity. Another method generates a catalog of computer system components, receives information regarding the identity of a computer system component from at least two different sources, and determines the identity of the computer system component based upon the reputation of the sources of the received information.

Hardware and software identifier categorization and review

Techniques for registering certificates after the issuance of the certificates are provided. A service provider securely registers a client's identity and its certificate without depending on or using an existing basis of trust, such as that provided by domain-joined clients or a security directory (e.g., MICROSOFT's ACTIVE DIRECTORY). The service provider provides services, such as, by way of example and not a limitation, email services, web application services, application services, etc., based on identifiers (e.g., service IDs) issued to registered clients. The service provider subsequently uses the issued identifier to authenticate a client requesting a service or services, and to authorize the client to receive the requested service or services.

Certificate registration after issuance for secure communication

A system and method to select a software distribution server to download content from a server to a client, and to execute content on the server for the client, is described. The system and method include a client able to couple to any of the regions of a multi-region network. The client queries a server system for an identification of network software distribution servers. The client and/or server system select the software distribution server according to criteria that include in one implementation the network location of the client and the software distribution servers. In one implementation, the network is a multi-LAN network and the client and/or server system select the software distribution server coupled to the same LAN as the client. In one implementation, the client queries a server for an identification of network management servers on the network, selects a network management server coupled to the same LAN as the client, and queries the selected network management server for an identification of a software distribution server.

System and method of network content location for roaming clients

A hand held device is herein provided for selectively scraping a surface layer from the face of a lottery ticket or the like, with this device having a housing member upon which a blade is mounted, with the housing having a central cavity for catching and retaining the scraped material removed from the lottery ticket. My novel device comprises upper and lower, generally triangularly shaped members mounted in a spaced apart relationship, and bounded by sidewalls. These sidewalls serve with the upper and lower members to define the central cavity. The blade for scraping the surface of the lottery ticket is supported at a front corner of my device, and an opening is disposed directly above the blade, and generally parallel therewith. This opening makes it readily possible for material scraped from the lottery ticket to enter my device and be retained in the central cavity. When the housing member is full, a slider member can be momentarily moved aside to permit the user to drop the scraped material directly into a trash receptacle.
