Application access to locally and remotely exported file systems is coordinated to allow caching data for exported file systems accessed by remote clients. In response to a request or file system access, it is determined whether the request relates to a locally exported file system or a remotely exported file system. If the request relates to a locally exported file system, a local access routine is invoked to obtain access permissions to the locally exported file system. If the request relates to remotely exported file system, a remote access routine is invoked to communicate with a local access routine in a file server responsible for coordinating access to the remotely exported file system to obtain access permissions to the remotely exported file system.

Method, computer program product, and system for coordinating access to locally and remotely exported file systems

Method, apparatus and article of manufacture for continuous modes for both asynchronous accepts and asynchronous receives. A single asynchronous accept is performed on a listening socket and a single asynchronous receive is performed on each connected socket. The continuous mode inputs result in queuing data structures on a pending queue. The contents of the pending data structures on the pending queue are copied to completion queues, while the pending data structures remain on the pending queue.

In general, computers of a client-server environment are configured with sockets to facilitate network communications. A socket of at least one of the computers is configured to recognize a format of a message to be received from another computer, whereby the socket is configured to handle receiving the message without invoking the application until the message is completely received. In general, the message may be formatted with a length field or terminating characters. In one embodiment, the socket utilizes a record definition to recognize the message format.

Efficient method for determining record based I/O on top of streaming protocols

Aspects for read/write data sharing of DASD (direct access storage device) data in a cluster of multiple data processing systems are described. In a method aspect, the method includes utilizing a first system as a managing system for file data modification of at least one file system, the at least one file system including a byte file system. The method further includes controlling access by at least one second system within the cluster of multiple system to data of the at least one file system through global token management, wherein concurrent, direct DASD read/write sharing of data of the at least one file system across the cluster of multiple systems occurs.
