A method of operating a HVAC system is provided. The method includes removing heat from a working fluid using an evaporator and a blower that moves airflow across the evaporator. The method includes measuring at least one gas property value of a fluid surrounding the evaporator using a leak detection sensor. The method includes determining a control setpoint for a maximum allowable concentration of working fluid in the fluid surrounding the evaporator, where the control setpoint corresponds to a gas property value associated with a threshold percentage of a lower flammability limit of the first refrigerant in air at the operating temperature. The method includes determining that the at least one gas property value of the working fluid exceeds the control setpoint. If exceeded, the method includes closing a value that regulates the flow of working fluid to the evaporator and initiating the blower to move airflow across the evaporator.

HVAC system and methods of using the same for leak detection

An apparatus for draining condensate accumulated by an air handling unit element, the element presenting a footprint area, includes: a substantially unitary plurality of surfaces oriented between a first level and a second level and bounded by a peripheral wall. The first level is generally higher than the second level in an installed orientation. A first surface is situated substantially at the first level and is generally horizontal and presents a generally planar expanse generally coextensive with the footprint area in the installed orientation. A second surface generally extends from the second level at a first end of the apparatus to the first level at two loci separated by the first surface at a second end of the apparatus opposite the first end to orient the first surface in a generally nested relationship with respect to the second surface. At least one third surface joins the first and second surfaces.

Apparatus and method for draining condensate

A low profile evaporator coil assembly and method for configuring the assembly in HVAC equipment. In one deployment, the assemblyis located between a heating furnace and a plenum. The assemblyincludes multiple coil slabsthrough which a refrigerant courses. The slabslie in a parallel relationship at an angle of inclination to the air entering a coil assembly. A baffleis associated with each coil slabto constrain air flow through the associated coil slab. A drain panis positioned beneath the slabs. The drain panhas multiple troughsfor collecting condensate. At least some of the multiple troughshave an air foilthat reduces air flow restriction.
