An emergency location server may receive push location messages from a handset as the handset initiates a call to a public safety answering point (PSAP). The PSAP may request the location information from the location server by identifying the MSISDN of the handset. If the push message does not contain an MSISDN, the location server may send a message, e.g. SRI-SM message, to the home network of the handset to retrieve the MSISDN and associate the MSISDN with the location information in the push location message. This enables the location server to provide location responses to the PSAP even when the handset is unaware of its MSISDN.

A system, method, and computer readable medium comprising instructions for providing temporary callback number for emergency calls is disclosed. A determination is made as to whether a restriction is imposed on a mobile user for incoming calls. A temporary callback number for the mobile user is generated if the restriction is imposed. A request for a callback to the mobile user comprising the temporary callback number is detected. The callback is routed to the mobile user using the temporary callback number.

Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location include receiving reported signal strengths or other attachment indicator values from a mobile station. The reported signal strengths are compared with characteristic received signal strength values in a coverage area of a mobile network. A mobile switching center determines if a local function is requested and initiates a location estimation process by a mobile location module (MLM). The MLM receives the reported signal strength contours associated with the attachment points. Based on a comparison of the reported attachment indicator values with characteristic values, the MLM provides a mobile location estimate.

Methods and apparatus for mobile station location estimation

The invention discloses a system and method for validating a wireless beacon location stored in a wireless beacon location record is actually proximate to the true location of the wireless beacon. The method includes: (a) receiving a wireless beacon location report with a wireless beacon identifier and a validation location; (b) correlating the wireless beacon location report with a wireless beacon location record by determining whether the beacon identifier in the wireless beacon location report matches the beacon identifier of a record in a plurality of wireless beacon location records; (c) determining whether the validation location received in the wireless beacon location report is proximal to the beacon location stored in the correlated wireless beacon location record, thereupon designating the wireless beacon location stored in the correlated wireless beacon location record as validated.

A system, method, and computer readable medium comprising instructions for handling insufficient account balance of subscribers in a mobile communications network is disclosed. A request for communication is received from a mobile station. A determination is made as to whether a subscriber of the mobile station has an insufficient account balance. If the subscriber has an insufficient account balance, the request is withheld and the mobile station is notified by a short message.

A system for dynamically coupling a special number call from a calling unit with at least one function-focused answerer includes: (a) at least one of an unlicensed mobile access network, a radio access network, and a public switched telephone network configured and situated for communicative coupling with the calling unit; (b) at least one network switch coupled with at least one of the networks; and (c) a special number call receiver coupled with the network switch. At least one of the special number call receiver and the network switch is configured for communicative coupling of the special number call with the at least one function-focused answerer unit. After receiving the special number call, the special number call receiver dynamically couples the special number call to an included function-focused answerer. Determining which function-focused answerer is an included function-focused answerer is made at the special number call receiver.
