A printing system for printing on a print media includes a first printhead and a second printhead for printing on the print media. A first liquid supply module including a first liquid reservoir is in fluid communication with the first printhead and provides liquid from the first liquid reservoir to the first printhead. A second liquid supply module including a second liquid reservoir is in fluid communication with the second printhead and provides liquid from the second liquid reservoir to the second printhead. A liquid transfer module transfers liquid between the first liquid reservoir and the second liquid reservoir. A method of transferring liquid in the printing system is also provided.

A constant flow valve mechanism for use in an inkjet printer includes a valve. A first port, a second port, and a third port are in fluid communication with each other through the valve. A portion of the valve is moveable and associated with the first, second, and third ports to produce a change in fluid impedance between the first port and the second port and the first port and the third port such that the fluid impedance between the first port and the second port changes at the same rate and in an opposite direction as that of the fluid impedance between the first port and the third port.

A device for transporting printed products including a plurality of individual pocket grippers, each pocket gripper having a first connector on one side and a second connector on a second side, and having gripping elements for gripping a printed product. A plurality of transport units is also provided, with each transport unit being movable along a track and being releasably attached to the first connector of a respective one of the plurality of pocket grippers. Also disclosed is a method for transporting printed products including the steps of gripping a printed product in a gripper pocket, moving the gripper pocket along a track, and releasing the gripper pocket while the printed product remains gripped.

The present invention is related to a trimming station for sheet like articles comprising a first conveyor assembly (2) conveying sheet material (3) in a first orientation (4) having a first trimming section (16) with vibrating trimming elements (19, 20). Further, a sheet material reorienting section (23) is provided for the sheet material (3). Reoriented sheet material articles (3) are conveyed in a second orientation (25) to a second conveyor assembly (24) having a second trimming section (33) with trimming elements (34, 35).

A collator (10) collates folded signatures (30). A conveyor (12) of the collator (10) moves a plurality of support saddles (20). The support saddles (20) receive and support the signatures (30) with their folds extending in a direction perpendicular to a movement direction (18) of the support saddles. A feed mechanism (40) feeds a signature (30) down toward a respective support saddle (20) as the conveyor (12) moves the support saddles. The signature (30) falls vertically toward the respective support saddle (20). An air handler (66) draws air down, vertically relative to the respective support saddle (20) to minimize air resistance acting against the signature (30) being fed to the respective support saddle (20).

A rotatable drum is disclosed for securing thereto various sizes of sheets of film by a partial vacuum. The drum includes a cylindrical body and first and second circular end blocks connected for closing the body. The drum is mounted for rotation about its central axis. The first end block defines concentrically therethrough a central passageway, connected to a source of partial vacuum so that the drum may be partially evacuated. The cylindrical body defines on its outer surface a plurality of parallel, identical grooves extending circumferentially about the body. A plurality of holes also extend through the body, each of the holes opening on the outer surface into one of the grooves. Importantly, the cross-sectional area of each hole is approximately equal to the cross-sectional area of each of the grooves, and no porting or valving is provided for the drum interior to close unneeded holes. The first block further defines a plurality of auxiliary passageways, each of the auxiliary passageways opening at a first end through the inner face of the block and connecting at a second end with the central passageway. The auxiliary passageways are disposed within the first block symmetrically about the axis of the drum.

Vacuum drum for securing a film thereto

A blade holding device is provided for use with a blade and a cylinder, the cylinder having a longitudinal recess defined in the periphery thereof parallel to the axis of the cylinder. First and second wedge members are fittable within the recess, each wedge member having an inner face and an outer face. A plurality of spring members is included, along with a resilient strip for holding the spring members in relative positions. The wedge members are insertable within the recess such that the resilient strip holding the spring members is disposed adjacent the outer face of the first wedge member. The blade is disposed between the resilient strip and a wall of the recess. Relative movement of the wedge members is performed by a bolt threadingly engaged with an end of the second wedge member and held in relative position with respect to the cylinder, whereby the blade is clamped between the first wedge member and the recess wall.
