An authorized user obtains a packaging license that grants permission to use a particular recording device to generate multimedia content in accordance with specified license terms. The packaging license includes a content key that is used to encrypt the multimedia content at the point of capture on the recording device. The encrypted multimedia content can be transmitted via unsecure channels (for example, via electronic mail) to a networked content repository or an intended recipient. For playback, an authorized user obtains a playback license that grants permission to decrypt and playback the multimedia content using a particular playback device. An authorization server and a key management server are used to manage which users are entitled to receive a license, and to define the terms of the granted licenses. A record of the granted authorizations and licenses is maintained, thereby allowing access to a given content item to be audited.

Secure recording and rendering of encrypted multimedia content

Systems and methods are presented for distributed validation of a digitally signed electronic document. A computing device accesses both a representation of the electronic document and a digital signature for the electronic document that includes a digest generated by the digital signature's creator by applying a one-way function to the electronic document. The computing device applies the same one-way function to the accessed representation of the electronic document to generate a new digest, and includes both the digital signature and the new digest in a request sent to a separate validation server. The request does not include the electronic document. The validation server generates validation results that depend on comparing the digest from the digital signature with the new digest, and that do not depend on having the electronic document available to the validation server. The computing device receives the validation results from the separate validation server.

Long-Term Validation (LTV) of a digital signature status indicator is disclosed. In some embodiments, the Long-Term Validation of a digital signature status indicator includes automatically determining whether a digital signature of a digitally signed document is LTV enabled based at least in part on LTV information; and generating an LTV status indicator that displays whether the digital signature of the digitally signed document is LTV enabled.

Embodiments of converting or translating electronic data from a first format to a second format with an applied electronic data security policy in mechanisms are described generally herein. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment, a server may parse content into one or more segments, and process the segments to identify where in the content one or more watermarks may be added. The segments may then be concatenated into processed content that includes watermarking instructions. The processed content may be transmitted to a client for rendering. In some embodiments, the watermarking may be applied dynamically at a server prior to or concurrently with transmission to the client. If the client encounters an instruction to add a watermark, the client may render a watermark based at least in part on client information and/or information capable of identifying the client's user. The watermark may be placed at locations in the content so that the content is discernible by a user, while also being placed within a context of the content so as not to distract from the content experience.

In one example embodiment, a method is illustrated that includes parsing seed data from digital content, the seed data identifying a signing entity, transmitting identifier data to the signing entity identified by the seed data, transmitting content information relating to the digital content to the signing entity, and receiving digitally signed content information relating to the digital content, the digitally signed content information signed by the signing entity. In another example embodiment, a method is illustrated as including parsing seed data from digital content, the seed data identifying a signing entity, transmitting identifier data to the signing entity identified by the seed data, receiving a credential from the signing entity, the credential used to sign the digital content, and signing the digital content using the credential.
