A card package is provided with a viewing window covered by a transparent, plastic window sheet or patch allowing a viewer to see the entire card or a portion thereof while the plastic window patch protects the card against damage. The card package may be in the form of a &ldquo;C&rdquo;-folded package assembly having an integral interior end panel, an exterior end panel, and intermediate end panel with the card positioned interiorly between the exterior panel and the intermediate panel. Also, the card package may have an &ldquo;A,&rdquo; &ldquo;V&rdquo; or &ldquo;Z&rdquo;-folded configuration. A transfer tracking strip may be releasably mounted on a panel for removal where the card is a phone package card. The preferred method of manufacture produces the card assembly from a printed web of sheet material, plastic window patches, a card with the web being folded to form the panels and with the card and patch being adhered to panels of the assembly.

Card package assembly and method of making same

A card package assembly and method of manufacture thereof allow simple and inexpensive production of desirable products, particularly useful for telephone debit cards. A web of card stock is imaged on both first and second faces with indicia (preferably variable and non-variable), and the faces are spot coated with plastic at spaced locations equal to the length of card package ultimately separated from the web. A card is formed from or out of each of the spot coated plastic locations, by die cutting, or with lines of weakness such as perforations. The form is narrower at the card, and adhesive patterns outside the card portions hold other panels of the package together once folded over to sandwich the card between other panels. The cards may be produced from a web one package wide, or from a web two or even more packages wide. A bang tail is preferably provided connected to the card, and of the same width, with a perforation separating the bang tail from the card and coupon indicia imaged on the bang tail.

Manufacture of telephone debit cards

Debit cards, such as long distance telephone cards, may be attractively packaged and even readily mounted for point of purchase display, in such a manner that the card is inactive until activated at the point of purchase. The card may be activated at the point of purchase without the necessity of in any way opening up the attractive packaging, or moving any portion of the packaging out of the way, and by merely 'swiping' the card while still mounted in the package through a conventional card reader. The card is mounted between first and second panels of primarily cellulose material including an area significantly greater than that of the card, with the card magnetic strip completely exposed (that is uncovered by the panels or any other packaging material). The majority of the card is typically sandwiched between the first and second panels and is removably held to the panels, for example by hold melt adhesive, and the panels are affixed to each other.
