A print medium having a base substrate including a blend of cellulosic fibers, a sizing material present in an effective amount from about 0 Kg/Ton of the print medium to about 1 Kg/Ton of the print medium, and a multivalent cation salt present in a synergistic amount from about 4 Kg/Ton of the print medium to about 25 Kg/Ton of the print medium.

Print media for inkjet printing

A printable recording media having a weight that is below 75 gsm and that contains a blend of hardwood and softwood fibers, wherein the total fiber content is at least 80 wt % of the total weight of the recording media; and a polymeric-modified pigment carbon black in an amount representing from about 0.02 wt % to about 1 wt % of the total weight of the recording media. Also disclosed herein are methods for making the printable recording media and a printing method using the printable recording media.

Printable recording media

The present disclosure provides low grammage recording media, and associated methods and systems. In one example, a low grammage recording medium can comprise a raw base paper having a basis weight of 65 gsm or less, the raw base paper comprising wood fiber and 2 wt % to 10 wt % filler including calcium carbonate. A surface treatment solution is applied to the raw base paper and comprises a surface sizing agent and 3 wt % to 15 wt % calcium carbonate.

Low grammage recording medium

An uncoated recording medium includes a blend of hardwood fibers and softwood fibers. The total fiber content is at least 80 wt % of a total wt % of the uncoated recording medium. A filler is present in the uncoated recording medium in an amount ranging from about 3 wt % to about 10.2 wt % of the total wt % of the uncoated recording medium. The uncoated recording medium has i) a weight ranging from about 50 g/mto about 70 g/m, and ii) a machine direction Lorentezen & Wetter 5 degree bending stiffness ranging from about 0.19 mNm to about 0.27 mNm and a cross direction Lorentezen & Wetter 5 degree bending stiffness ranging from about 0.09 mNm to about 0.12 mNm, and iii) an ISO brightness of at least 86.

Uncoated recording media

A sizing composition includes from about 3 kg/ton to about 15 kg/ton of calcium propionate, an additive, and a balance of water. The additive is selected from the group consisting of starch, an optical brightener, a biocide, a defoamer, a surface size agent, a wet strength additive, and combinations thereof. The sizing composition has a pH ranging from 7 to 8.

An uncoated recording medium includes a blend of hardwood and softwood chemical pulp fibers, and thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibers, with total fiber content at least 80 wt % of the medium's total wt %. Hardwood fibers range from about 20 wt % to about 70 wt %, softwood fibers range from about 30 wt % to about 50 wt %, and TMP fibers range from about 10 wt % to about 30 wt %, all relative to the total fiber content. A TiOamount ranges from about 1.5 wt % to about 6 wt % of the total wt %, and a bivalent or multivalent salt amount ranges from about 6,000 to about 16,000 &#x3bc;g/gram of the medium. The basis weight ranges from about 45 g/mto about 63 g/m.

An inkjet printable media comprises a paper base containing a surface coating comprising calcium chloride and a synergistic amount of a sulfate salt. When the printable media is printed with an inkjet ink containing a black pigment, a KOD value of the printed media is equal to or greater than that of a comparative inkjet printed media comprising up to 12 kg calcium chloride/T media and lacking the sulfate salt.

Paper enhancement treatment with decreased calcium chloride

A composition includes an alkenyl succinic anhydride sizing agent or an alkyl ketene dimer sizing agent. The alkenyl succinic anhydride sizing agent is present in an amount ranging from about 1.0 pounds per ton to about 4.0 pounds per ton. The alkyl ketene dimer sizing agent is present in an amount ranging from about 2.0 pounds per ton to about 10.0 pounds per ton. A metallic salt is also incorporated in the composition.

Highlighter ink compositions can be prepared which provide improved abilities to reduce smear during highlighting. Highlighter ink compositions can include an acid buffer having a pKa from about 2 to about 6, a highlighter colorant, and a liquid vehicle. The image for highlighting can be formed on the substrate using any conventional printing technique, such as ink-jet printing or other printing techniques. Application of the highlighter ink compositions of the present invention to a printed image results in a reduced degree of image smear, particularly when the image was produced by an ink-jet printing process. Further, the acid buffer can be configured for reducing mobility of specific ink-jet colorants. In this way, the highlighter ink composition can be specifically tailored for reducing smear of various printed inks.

Ink compositions for use in highlighter markers and associated methods

An ink set providing reduced differential lightfade and graininess. The ink set comprises at least one dark inkjet ink and at least one light inkjet ink. The dark inkjet ink comprises at least one pigment having a high chromaticity and a low lightfastness and the light inkjet ink comprises at least one less chromatic pigment having a high lightfastness. The pigment in the dark inkjet ink is dissimilar from the pigment in the light inkjet ink in at least one of a crystal form, particle size, chromophore, and chemical dispersant. A method of reducing differential lightfade and graininess in a printed image is also disclosed.

Print media and methods of making print media are disclosed. One exemplary print medium, among others, includes a substrate having a fibrous component. In addition, a cationic guanidine polymer compound or salt thereof and a metallic salt are each disposed within the fibrous component of the substrate.

Ink-jet printing systems and methods of use for printing visible and invisible inks for subsequent development, which can produce text with associated highlighting or underlining that reduces messiness inherent in highlighting important text are disclosed. The ink-jet printing systems and methods of use can include a substrate, visible ink-jet ink configured to be ink-jetted onto at least a portion of the substrate to form a first visible image, a first invisible composition configured to be ink-jetted onto at least a portion of the substrate to form an invisible image visibly associated with the first visible image, and a second invisible composition configured for over-striking at least a portion of the invisible image. The first and second invisible compositions can be further configured to react and form a second visible image on the substrate.

Ink-jet systems and methods using visible and invisible ink

An ink set for ink-jet printing, having at least one ink of the ink set comprising a light dye load and a dark dye load with both the light dye load and the dark dye load being one color. The one color is selected from magenta, cyan, yellow and black; and the light dye load being at least one of air fade resistant, light fade resistant and humid color migration resistant. The invention also relates to a method of inkjet printing with such a method.
