Sensor shift structures in optical image stabilization suspensions

A suspension assembly is described. The suspension assembly including a static member or plate; a moving member or plate movable about an x-axis and a y-axis with respect to the static plate; a sensor mounting region on the moving plate; and one or more shape memory alloy (SMA) elements extending between and coupled to the static plate and moving plate. The SMA elements, when driven by a controller, move the moving plate and the sensor mounting region thereon about the x-axis and the y-axis with respect to the static plate.

Various embodiments concern a method of attaching a microactuator to a flexure, depositing a wet mass of structural adhesive on the flexure, mounting the microactuator on the wet mass of structural adhesive, partially curing the mass of structural adhesive through a first application of curing energy, and depositing a mass of conductive adhesive on the flexure. The mass of conductive adhesive is deposited in contact with the mass of structural adhesive. The state of partial curing of the structural adhesive prevents the conductive adhesive from wicking between the flexure and the underside of the microactuator and displacing the structural adhesive which may otherwise result in shorting to a stainless steel layer of the flexure. The method further comprises fully curing the mass of structural adhesive and the conductive adhesive through a second application of curing energy.

Partial curing of a microactuator mounting adhesive in a disk drive suspension

The present disclosure relates to methods and a related systems and tools for dispensing an adhesive piece having damping qualities onto a component of a hard disk drive suspension. The adhesive piece can be commercially available layered strip sold as an adhesive layer having a first and a second liner adhered to each side. An exemplary method can cut an adhesive piece, separate the adhesive piece from a secondary liner, adhere the adhesive piece onto a component of a hard disk drive suspension, separate a primary liner from the adhesive piece, and dispose of the primary liner using a conventional gantry system. The method can be performed using a two-step operation of the gantry system.

Visco pad placement in disk drives

Apparatus for adjusting the static attitude of a head suspension having a gimbal with at least one gimbal arm. One embodiment of the invention includes a pair of first contacting members contacting a first side of the gimbal arm at a pair of spaced apart locations, and a second contacting member contacting a second side of the gimbal arm at an intermediate location between the spaced apart locations. The first and second contacting members move together relative to each other, plastically deforming the gimbal arm by the relative movement between the second and first contacting members while the spaced apart location between the first contacting members is maintained during the plastic deformation such that at least one of a pitch and roll parameter of the gimbal is adjusted to a desired amount.

Apparatus for adjusting pitch and roll in a head suspension

Apparatus and method for adjusting at least one of a pitch and roll parameter of a gimbal for a head suspension assembly having a pair of members contacting at least one gimbal arm at spaced apart locations and having an additional member contacting the gimbal arm intermediate the spaced apart locations and wherein the members move together to cause plastic deformation of the gimbal arm. A like apparatus and method may be used sequentially or concurrently on a second gimbal arm, and may have an inverted orientation with respect to the first apparatus.

Method for adjusting pitch and roll in a head suspension

An inlet flue system for conducting particulate-containing gases to the inlet nozzles of a multiplicity of electrostatic precipitator chambers comprises an elongated plenum located generally above the nozzles. The plenum is substantially entirely open at the bottom, and the inlet ends of the perimeter walls of branch ducts leading from the open bottom define a series of outlet openings from the plenum. The open bottom construction leaves the plenum substantially free of upwardly facing surfaces where particulates can settle.

Inlet flue system for banks of electrostatic precipitator chambers

Each precipitation chamber of an electrostatic precipitator has an airlock provided by closable damper means and located in the path of the gas flow through the chamber between the inlet plenum and outlet plenum of the precipitator. Apparatus is provided in association with each airlock for establishing a gas pressure differential between the airlock and the rest of the chamber so that essentially no uncleaned gas can pass by leakage through the airlock to the precipitator outlet. The airlock is established during normal precipitator cleaning (rapping), thereby enhancing the effectiveness of cleaning by stopping gas flow through the chamber during cleaning, increasing particulate fall into the hoppers and permitting optimization of rapping intensity, rate and frequency. Precipitator efficiency is increased significantly by preventing outflow of re-entrained particulates during cleaning.
