A method is directed to managing data and navigation panes in a windowed environment. The method provides for displaying a plurality of panes within the single window, receiving a user input, displaying at least one pivot point input location in response to the user input, receiving a twist input, and modifiying the plurality of panes in response to the twist input.

Method and system for managing multi&#x2014;paned windowed environments

User interfaces, methods, systems, and computer program products for improving interactions with users of pervasive computing devices such as personal digital assistants, Web-enabled cellular phones, Web appliances, wearable computing devices, so-called &ldquo;smart&rdquo; appliances in the home, and so forth. A multi-functional application launcher is defined that is specifically adapted for use on devices with limited display space and which use pen-based input or other similar input means. This application launcher enables improved navigation, and provides an improved way to show task status information to the device user. Multiple functions per task are supported, and status information is provided, all from an application launcher view.

Methods, systems and computer program products are provide which control events associated with an element of a user interface by determining a characteristic(s) of pointer movement of a pointing device and adjusting a condition(s) for triggering an event associated with the element based on the determined characteristic of pointer movement. The triggering of the event is controlled utilizing the adjusted condition. By determining characteristics of pointer movement, a user's intent may be inferred from that pointer movement and, based on the inferred intent, the conditions for triggering of events may be adjusted consistent with such inferred intent.

Methods, systems and computer program products for controlling events associated with user interface elements by capturing user intent based on pointer movements

A technique, system, and computer program for providing a visually oriented, easily navigable search facility. Templates containing field names and possible default values are stored for each available task for this user, preferably in a memory cache or disk cache. When the user enters a value or pattern into a field of the search criteria, this value or pattern is retained. When a subsequent search is requested, the retained values are checked to determine if the user already entered values for any fields of the now-current template. If so, then those values are automatically filled in for this current template. The user is allowed to override any of the filled-in values, and these overrides will also become retained values. Retained values are cleared when the user exits the search facility, or when the user explicitly requests to clear the values.

A list of various versions of file sets that need to be reconciled (collisions) are automatically loaded into a collision handler. The user works through the list, resolving differences by selecting one of the files or by merging several of them through selection and modification, as required. The user is provided with buttons that allow rapid changes between different styles of views (Split, Composite, Split-Merge, Composite-Merge) which allows the user to see the files in a number of different ways to further facilitate the process.

Method and system for automatically detecting collision and selecting updated versions of a set of files

A system-integrated input device for manipulating objects on the display of a computer screen. The device is integrated as a pointer stick, which may be located on an existing keyboard, on an existing mouse device, or elsewhere. Both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional user input are supported. In a first embodiment, the device is easily convertible between 2D and 3D input mode. Preferably, this conversion occurs by pressing down on the pointer stick, which is implemented as a spring-loaded device. The device supports input in the X and Y direction while in 2D mode, and adds the Z direction while in 3D mode. Movement in the Z direction is indicated by rotating the pointer stick to the left or right. In a second embodiment, movement in the Z direction is indicated by pushing and pulling on a sliding, or telescoping, pointer stick.
