A porous metal filter possessing enhanced anticorrosive properties is provided including sintered metal particles composed of an alloy composition of iron aluminide having a range in concentration corresponding to Fe Al to FeAl phases and having a Bubble Point ratio of about 1.6 or less.

Metal filter for high temperature applications

Metal particulates and porous metal media, which have enhanced resistance to undesirable oxidation, and methods of producing the same are provided. The porous metal media comprise sintered metal particulates each typically having a core and a surface and a diameter in the range of 0.25 to 50 micrometers, the particulates comprising at least about 60 wt. % of a base metal including at least one of iron and nickel, at least about 11 wt. % chromium and no more than about 0.03 wt. % carbon. The surfaces of the particulates are enriched with at least one treatment element in an amount and depth sufficient to enhance the resistance of the particulates to undesirable oxidation. The invention also includes a fine metal filter medium formed from sintered metal fibers, which has enhanced resistance to corrosion and/or to high temperature oxidation. A method of enhancing the resistance of a porous metal medium to undesirable oxidation is also provided which includes heating a porous metal medium formed from sintered metal particulates having a diameter in the range of 0.25 to 50 micrometers and a composition comprising (a) at least about 60 wt. % of a base metal including at least one of iron and nickel, (b) at least about 11 wt. % chromium and (c) no more than about 0.03 wt. % carbon, in the presence of a pack composition comprising a treatment element, an activator and a diluent, at a temperature of at least about 700.degree. C.

Oxidation resistant metal particulates and media and methods of forming

A process for reducing the level of extractables, whitening, and rendering a porous material non-contaminating where the porous material is comprised of bonded fluorocarbon fibers and a fluorocarbon chemical binder. The thermal bleaching process includes exposing the material for at least several hours to a vigorously agitated oxygen-containing atmosphere maintained at a temperature of at least 400.degree. F.

Porous, fibrous structures comprising polytetrafluoroethylene fibers in a fluorocarbon binder are prepared by laying down a stabilized dispersion of the fibers, stabilizing agent, and liquid carrier on a support, removing at least a portion of a liquid carrier, preferably drying the laydown, applying an emulsion of a fluorocarbon binder to the laydown and curing the fluorocarbon binder. The resulting structures have void volumes of from about 40 to about 99 percent, strengths of from about 200 to about 6,000 grams per inch of width, and air pressure drops of from about 0.0025 to about 0.1 inch of water at a flow rate of 28 standard cubic feet per minute per square foot of the fibrous structure.

Porous fibrous fluorocarbon structures

Discloses the use of nickel-cobalt alloy strike deposits especially ultra-thin nickel-cobalt alloy strike deposits on directly plateable plastics whereby difficulties encountered in plating directly plateable plastics are obviated and plated objects suitable for service conditions 3 and 4 or equivalent service conditions are provided. Especially advantageous results are obtained when the strike deposit contains at least about 30% cobalt.
