A saw chain having center links and side link pairs that are pivotally joined by a headless fastener. The side link pairs are formed into an integral unit, by a bridge portion to receive a center link therebetween. The center link and the side link pair have aligned bores for receiving a fastener. The fastener has a center section that is rotatably received in the bore of the center link and has larger end sections on each side of the center section that are received in the bores of the side link pair. The diameter of the center section of the fastener is smaller than the diameter of the end sections. The bore of the center link is of a smaller diameter than the bores in the side link pair. The fastener is forcibly inserted into the aligned bores of the side link pair and the center link. The forced insertion of the fastener forces the bore of the center link to enlarge permitting an end section of fastener to pass through with the center section of the fastener residing in the bore of the center link. The bore of the center link returns to its original dimension to capture the fastener in the assembly. The fastener has a length corresponding to the width of the side link pair and therefore does not extend beyond either side of the pair.

Saw chain having headless fastener

A guide bar for a chain saw having interior channels for conducting fluid to a nose end of the bar. The channel conducts fluid to the nose end of the bar where a sprocket is rotatably mounted. The sprocket has grooves formed in each side of its body for injecting fluid received from the center channel into the supporting bearing surface in the bore of the sprocket. The grooves are configured to inject fluid to the bearing surfaces regardless of the direction of sprocket rotation. The grooves which have open tops also provide for fluid flow between the side of the sprocket body and the side laminates of the sprocket nose. The grooves also provide an exit for fluid to flow out of the bearing surface as the grooves are positioned opposite the center channel as the sprocket is rotated. The flow of fluid through the grooves into the bearing area and the flow of fluid between the sprocket and the side laminates provides a hydraulic wall to prevent entry of contaminants into the sprocket.

Fluid injecting nose sprocket for a chain saw guide bar

A cutting saw chain for aggregate materials including a loop of articulated chain links adapted to fit the guide bar of a chain saw. The guide bar is provided with a flushing system whereby pressurized water is directed through the bar and into the path of the guided saw chain to cool the chain and flush away debris formed in the cutting operation. The cutting link structure is a folded plate-like member formed into spaced side plate portions and an overhead connecting web. The side plate portions function like side links in a conventional saw chain and ride on the rails of the guide bar. Rivet holes are formed in the side plate portions. Rivets projected through the rivet holes connect the side plate portions to front and rear center links. The side plate portions are fixed in spaced relation by the connecting web an permits the use of rivets with straight shank. The connecting web supports front and rear sections of a cutting block. An opening is provided between the front and rear cutting block sections and through the underlying connecting web to provide a passageway for directing the pressurized water through the chain and directly into the kerf being cut.
