A device for the control of mosquito larvae includes a float with a self-contained power source associated with the float. There is a light source which extends downwardly from the float and is connected to the power source for activation thereof. A walled enclosure depends from the float, which walled enclosure will be filled with water when the float is placed upon the surface of a body of water. The light source is positioned within the enclosure and is directionalized toward the exterior thereof generally parallel to the water surface. There are openings in the enclosure beneath the water surface and in alignment with the light source for the passage of mosquito larvae into the enclosure when attracted by light from the source. The mosquito larvae so attracted by light from the source will swim into the enclosure, through the opening, seeking air and will shortly expire due to the lack of air within the enclosure.

Mosquito larvae light trap

A device for the control of mosquito larvae includes a float and a self-contained electrical power source positioned on or within the float. There is a light source extending downwardly from the float and connected to the power source for activation thereof. A walled enclosure depends from the float, which enclosure will be filled with water when the float is placed upon the surface of a body of water. There is a generally 360.degree. circumferential opening generally intermediate the ends of the enclosure which permits the passage of mosquito larvae into the enclosure when attracted by the light source. The opening is located generally adjacent the light source and mosquito larvae attracted by light from the source will swim into the enclosure and then upwardly seeking air and will shortly thereafter expire due to the lack of air within the enclosure.

An apparatus for vehicle distribution of solid insecticide-carrying pellets or briquets into bodies of water such as catch basins includes a bracket which is formed and adapted to be supported on the door of a vehicle with the window rolled down. Preferably, the bracket is positioned adjacent the vehicle operator's driving position. The bracket extends outside of the vehicle and has an opening therein. A funnel and a tube are positioned at a location to be accessible to the driver with the tube extending through the bracket opening. The relative sizes of the tube and the opening permit movement of the tube therein so that the vehicle operator may direct the tube to a desired location for application of an insecticide-carrying pellet or briquet. The funnel extends upwardly to a height relative to the bracket which permits the vehicle operator to place an insecticide-carrying pellet therein. There is a container attached to the bracket, preferably on the inside of the vehicle and accessible to the vehicle operator such that the operator may take a pellet from the container and place it in the funnel and then direct the funnel and tube to a desired location, all while remaining in the vehicle operator's driving position. There is a counter positioned on the bracket between the funnel and the container so that the vehicle operator may register each application of an insecticide pellet.

Apparatus for vehicle distribution of solid insecticide-carrying bodies

A gypsum-based pesticide product and method of manufacture of such product in which the product has a release time for the pesticide which is determined at least in part by its size and in which the gypsum is a solid formed by the bonding of plaster of Paris and water. The product, prior to formation of the solid, includes, by weight, no more than about 20% water, approximately 5% of pesticide, with the balance being plaster of Paris. The ingredients, prior to formation into a solid, are intimately mixed for a time period which is only a fraction of the setting time of the mixture with the amount of water being no greater than that required to completely set the plaster of Paris into gypsum.

Gypsum-based insecticide pellets and method of manufacture

A machine distributable gypsum-based pesticide pellet in which the gypsum is a solid formed by the bonding of plaster of paris and water which includes, prior to formation of the solid, by weight, no more than the minimum water required for substantial hydration of the plaster of paris. The pellet includes approximately five percent of a pesticide with the balance being plaster of paris. The pesticide, water and plaster of paris are generally uniformly mixed to provide a pellet which has a generally uniform release of the pesticide over its life. The pellet after setting has essentially no free water in that substantially all water is absorbed in the chemical reaction between the plaster of paris and water. The pellet has a maximum surface area of about 180 mm.sup.2, a maximum weight of about 0.3 gram, and has been compressed in the extrusion process to eliminate porosity and external and internal voids.

A device for releasing mosquito larvae-killing material into a body of water includes a porous container having mosquito larvae-killing material therein. There are buoyancy means associated with the container to raise it above the bottom surface of a body of water and out of any silt that may be at the bottom. There is a weight adjacent one end of the container which cooperates with the buoyancy means to maintain the container in a generally upright position within the body of water. There is a flexible connection between that portion of the container holding the larvae-killing material and the weight to permit the container to move as water flows by it and to prevent the container from being buried in surrounding silt.

Container for releasing dry chemical in a body of water

A dipper for use in removing mosquito larvae from bodies of water includes a cup and a handle. The cup has a generally frusto-conic outer wall terminating in a laterally extending annular lip. There is a bottom integral with the frusto-conic outer wall. The annular lip and the adjacent areas of the upper portion of the wall form generally diammetrically opposed pouring grooves, which grooves extend below the level of the lip, with the lip being continuous in size and shape throughout the grooves. There is a handle support integral with the cup wall which extends outwardly from the wall and has a coaxially arranged cylindrical opening for mounting the handle.
